Atticus Caedus
The Red Paladin Atticus Caedus
Loyalty and Strength
Atticus Caedus was born the son of Aurelius Caedus and Adelpha Karas in the year 1283. Atticus was considered to be the strongest and most physically gifted of his siblings, and his strength was said to even outmatch his father. As Atticus grew up in Whiteridge he quickly made a name for himself with his combat skill and his hair-trigger temper. He was normally a kind man, but his temperment could turn on a dime. When he was seventeen he famously got into a fist fight with an orc at a bar in the countryside. He fought the orc for almost half an hour, refusing to let any guards intervene. He eventually gained the upper hand, but after knocking the orc down, he helped him up and bought him a drink, as a gesture of gratitude for fun day. Atticus loved his family, and he was very protective of his sister specifically. He once beat a man half to death for making lecherous comments about his sister at court.Wild Youth
Atticus had a carefree childhood, often getting into fights or otherwise driving his caretakers mad with worry. His father loved him dearly and often allowed him more freedom and less responsibility than his siblings, due to his nature as a second son. Atticus became more difficult to deal with the older he got however. He refused to participate in most politics, preferring to participate in tournaments and duels. He went on several outings to the countryside without telling his father where he was going, and according to rumor, he was meeting up with the orc that he had fought, who had become his friend. Some even suggest that he had a secret affair with the orc's sister that spawned a few bastard half-orc children, though this claim is unsupported, and he stopped visiting the countryside when he was 25. Atticus refused to marry anyone until he was 26, when he fought in a tournament with some knights. He asked for any volunteers that wanted to test their mettle in a joust, and to his surprise, a noble woman volunteered. This 20 year old woman was Maegan Albana, the fifth child of a minor lord, and a woman that had trained in combat since her childhood. She almost won the joust, though Atticus won, and was greatly impressed with her. He found her after the joust and became her combat instructor, and the two married when he was 27.The Red Paladin
Atticus was the only member of his family that knew of his younger sisters secret marriage to an elf, and he was saddened when she announced her marriage to her family and was promptly cut off from the family. He sometimes made excuses to visit her in Allysium, though he had to keep this secret from everyone around him. When he turned 28 he had a party to celebrate, inviting all of the castles knights and noblemen. He drank heavily, and eventually challenged a large man to an arm wrestling match. The man refused, and Atticus saw this as a slight on him, and he beat the man into a coma. He felt immense guilt for this the next day, and visited the man every day to see if his condition improved. Eventually, the man awake from his coma, and he forgave Atticus. The man was a cleric, a follower of Tyr. Atticus was moved by the man's kindness and devotion, and they became freinds, and Atticus began to serve Tyr to make up for the bad things he had done. He began to command his fathers armies against orc raiding parties and bandits, and he attempted to seek out evil in any form and destroy it. Atticus soon earned the moniker of "Red Paladin" due to his crimson armor and devotion to his deity. To celebrate his son's newfound responsibility, Aurelius gave Atticus a small castle called Leonhall.Personal Life
Atticus had three legal children, a daughter named Artoria born in 1312, a son named Aulus in 1316, and a second daughter named Viria in 1318. According to rumor, he has three bastard half-orc children born somewhere between 1302-1308. His oldest daughter took after her parents, but unfortunately drowned in a boating accident in 1324, at only twelve years old. His son took after his father, being a wild man, and he lived to old age. Viria was a shy and intelligent girl, and she eventually married a noble and lived with him for the rest of her life. In 1348, Atticus's brother Cassius fell very ill, so Atticus took over as King for four years. He mostly let his advisors run things while he supervised, and his nephew took over for him when he came of age. Atticus himself died in 1356, when he fought in a duel against a convicted murderer at the age of 73. He decapitated his opponent before succombing to a chest wound he sustained during the duel. Atticus Caedus died as he lived, fighting.Family Tree
