Cycle of the Elder Moon

The 50 year half of the elder moon cycle is the period of time where fever reports begin. There are two 10 year winding up and down times in the cycle that eases victims into their decades long challenge.

Causes

Symptoms are nearly always reported in the half of the elder moon cycle where it is visible in the sky.

Symptoms

• Shaking
• Body aches
• Headaches
• Intermittent or excessive sweating
• Rapid heart rate

Hot skin

Lightheadedness

Sore eyes and fuzzy vision

Weakness

Loss of appetite

Severe but rare reactions include: Earache, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, hallucinations and temporary disorientation.

Treatment

There is not much that can done to fight the moon's effects but the symptoms can be lessened:

• Tepid water baths
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid alcohol
• Apply cool damp washcloth to the forehead

For women of child bearing age, home recipes for slowing the blood cycle have proven to be effective in greatly lessening symptoms. Ideally, ones requiring consumption before the beginning blood cycle.

Prognosis

The illness is not in itself deadly. Even babies can survive it, though they wail more often. Headaches and body pains increase across the board

Sequela

The elderly are more likely to die the higher the moon rises. Young girls, on the other hand, can follow along one of three progresses. They can be left relatively unaffected and live their life without the moons influence. Or they may be made weaker or stronger by the time the moon moves from its long position in the sky.

Squeezed

Females who survived but were crippled from the fever have endured loss of muscle mass which leaves them appearing gaunt. Most are able to recover if they have access to sufficiently nutritious food sources to rebuild their strength, but they will still tire easily.

Wisened

Females who recovered from the fever after the final setting of the Elder are made stronger than one who did not experience the decades of internal struggle. What is unexplained is the better-than-average proficiency in salt spells they acquire; unmatched in their male peers.
It is easy to see that the boost their women experience is a leading cause of the Tinged being women ruled as they are in their society.

Affected Groups

It can and has been argued conclusively that everyone is effected by the Elder Moon's cycle, but two groups in particular are vulnerable.

Elderly

The elderly, whose bodies are weaker after a time, are more likely to die. Not to say that they would not have died even without the moon fever. But it does make tracking how an aged person died more apparent. Complaints of body pains and secondary illnesses, have convinced some to take alcohol or jax as pain remedies.

Women

Young maidens and old people are disproportionally effected by the moon's orbit. For the fact that the red moon's phases also coincides with a girl's flowering as a marker; the elder moon exasperates the menstrual cycle into something harder to endure.
