House Gavinies (GǍ-vēn-yės)
"We only attack those asshole merchants who go back and forth between noble houses for trade... and they're pretty obvious by their accent. You're from House Gavinies, aren't you?"
Structure
House Gavinies was the last remaining province in Uthilith to utilize the feudal structure of organization and rule. Pavel Gavinies was "given" this land by the Noble Premier in CY 1112, expelling the small population of Stout Halflings from their thousand-year home and dispersing them throughout the rest of Iacchus Argentum.
The Head of House held land granted by the Noble Premier in exchange for additional military support towards the Coalition, and in turn, various vassals residing on the land are tenants of this House. Gavinies territory's greatest population consists of a peasantry class (serfdom), who are obliged to live within the territory of the House and provide homage, labor, and production - all for military protection from outsiders.
Culture
The citizens of House Gavinies did not possess a high level of education (a 60% literacy rate as opposed to the global average of approximately 93%), and thus failed to understand the progress the world outside of the territory has made in terms of magic and freedom. Though objects crafted within the boundaries purposed specifically for export carry a high degree of extravagance, the individuals who crafted them are significantly more 'rustic' in their lifestyle. Culture (when the nobility is ignored) focuses significantly on the question "What makes a home?", as they feel so neglected by their own ruling class that they have to make their own comfort where they can.
Thus, a large portion of customs revolve around interpersonal relationships - giving of simple gifts, sharing of comforting foods, and the fostering of caring kinship.
Public Agenda
"All we desire is to bring exquisite joy unto the rest of the world. Is that too much to ask?"
Mikhail Gavinies, CY 1666
Assets
House Gavinies effectively owned everything within the designated boundary set by The Noble Coalition of Iacchus Argentum. The most significant assets include the merchant town of Aberra with all of its surrounding serf-dominated villages, the handsome manor and grounds in the north side of the territory, and a feudal military of approximately 15,000 individuals (13,000 of which are standard fighters, 1,500 of which are trained in guerilla tactics/assassinations, and 500 with prowess in arcane arts).
The House's physical net worth in gold and platinum (before investments, art, accrued magical items, and other non-liquid assets) was approximately 12.4 million gold pieces. Notably, this number has been steadily decreasing since Mikhail Gavinies became Head of House in CY 1649 - prior to that year, House Gavinies was worth approximately 39.5 million gold pieces. No one is sure where that 27.1 million had gone, and even the House's recordkeepers are incredibly confused.
All of the House's previous assets - with the exception of the manor, which remains in the possession of Nadia Moor - are being slowly distributed back to the people of the territory.
Disbandment
House Gavinies was disbanded upon their attempt to end the life of legitimate heir Nadia Moor, who brought The Killjoys to the House to defeat their leader. The House is currently in a transition of power between Mikhail Gavinies to Nadia Moor, and will henceforth be known as House Moor.
