Skalitz Viscounty

The Viscounty of Skalitz is mostly controlled by mining guilds from Baldur's Gate, and their continued presence and operations in this region are one of the primary reasons why Baldur's Gate has a continued interest in the Staglands in general.

History

The village of Rovna formed early in the history of the colonization of the Staglands and the Skalitz mill soon followed, being a baronetcy that soon became tied to Rovna, ownership of which was directly connected to the governorship of the entire Viscounty. At some point, the Baron of Talmberg attempted to grant the title of Viscount to the Castellan of Pribyslavitz, but this was protested by other nobles in the region who felt that this would make the Castellan too powerful, and so the Viscounty into the hands of yet another lesser noble family, until eventually a mining guild from Baldur's Gate bought the rights to mine silver in the Viscounty from the Margrave, and funded the construction of the castle and village of Skalitz, which they granted to the Viscount who is Viscount mostly in name now, due to the mining guilds having leases and contracts on most things that occur in the Viscounty.
