House Talmar

House Talmar was a lesser noble family that hailed from the principality of Zarovich, but fled said lands hundreds of years ago when the lands became cursed. They, much later became the Earls of the Staglands. The family's ancestral seat is the Viscounty of Talmberg.

History

House Talmar was actually an Uthgardt tribe that was aborbed into the Zarovich Principality during its expansion. Defeated, but offered a place in the principality, the Stag Tribe was forever changed - a brutish noble house that made a living on the outer reaches of society, hunting and trapping, they built a fortune and spent on raising armies they could pillage with. Eventually, they, like most others, fled the cursed Zarovich principality and became little more than robber barons, the family had enough money to build a fortress far away from civilization and would only return to civilized lands to sell their harvested goods, or their spoils.   They began building positive relations with Baldur's Gate as they became known as the Scourge of Amn, their wooden fortress far up in the Cloud peaks, they exclusively raided Amnish merchants and sold their spoils in Baldur's Gate. It wasn't meant to last, and in 1151 they were driven from their fortress after the Golden Legion itself had attacked them. They sought refuge in Baldur's Gate and spend next decade acclimatizing to life in civilization, drifting around as Guests and men-at-arms for various nobles in the region. In 1167, they had almost used up all their goodwill in the city, not because their hosts tired of them, but because they had settled quite a few disputes for their friends, resulting in wrongful deaths aplenty, but before they could be prosecuted, they were offered to go on a reconquest mission in the March known as the Staglands, and they accepted - not because they were afraid of the consequences they were likely about to face, but because the expedition was, or so they thought, unmistakably part of an ancient prophecy that the family had long believed in - that the Talmar family would eventually return the Stag.   Once they arrived in Vranik, the quickly partnered with House Ryker against the other nobles assembled, and while House Ryker actually drove out the undesirables from the lands, House Talmar ensured that none of the other nobles would challenge the partnership - in the end, House Talmar became the rulers of the Staglands, fulfilling their prophecy.
