Morganyn

Morganyn, Queen of the tritons, holds the role of the crystal's keeper. She has hidden this precious gem deep within her own body, linking it to her very soul, ensuring that only she may access its power. It is this link that caused her Death, as Wellan, a pirate from the Garrot killed her to break the crystal and free Tromokratis.

History

Early history

Morganyn's birth coincided with the height of the war between the Tritons and the Sahuaguins. As the daughter of the Triton queen and king, she possessed royal blood. The devastating wrath of Tromokratis prompted Morganyn's father, the king, to take his daughter and flee far from the conflict, accompanied by many of their subjects. Together, they established a new settlement in the somber sea, offering hope for peace to the Tritons.   Faced with the overwhelming power of Tromokratis, the Tritons sought allies in the form of sea elves and Merfolk, collectively forming the Great Sea Civilization. Together, they managed to seal Tromokratis' power within three coven crystals, each race safeguarding one of these crystals.   Tragically, Morganyn's father lost his life during the operation to seal Tromokratis' power, leading Morganyn to grieve deeply. From that day forward, a profound hatred for Tromokratis took root in Morganyn's heart, eventually driving her to become the protector of the coven crystal and the queen of the Tritons.   Upon assuming her role as queen, Morganyn bore witness to countless individuals who coveted the crystal's immense power, offering her the world in exchange for it. However, their unbridled greed disgusted Morganyn, compelling her to make a fateful decision – to absorb the crystal herself. With its power now coursing through her, she became an unstoppable force, ceaselessly guarding the crystal and ruling over the Tritons.

The cloven crystal war

The Cloven Crystals, ancient seals binding the mighty Tromokratis, had fallen one by one. Either destroyed or stolen by the pirates of the Kraken King, their loss heralded the return of a monstrous force. Only one crystal remained, and with it, the last barrier to the Kraken King's dominion over the oceans. Queen Morganyn, its warden, stood as the final bulwark against his conquest.   A desperate war erupted as the Kraken King rallied the Longstraw Pirates, assembling a fleet of over twenty ships crewed by hundreds of bloodthirsty raiders. Their target: Coralia, the Triton capital, where the final crystal lay embedded within the queen herself. Morganyn, knowing the threat, sent her Triton warriors to meet the enemy on the surface, while Coralia’s Plasmoid allies took charge of the city’s defense.   As fireballs and arcane barrages rained down from pirate mages, the battle raged across the sea. But among the pirates, not all were loyal to the Kraken King. A rogue ship, The Garrot, used the chaos to slip its own infiltrators into Coralia—Wellan, Rixa Rae Silver, Achuak, and Aryte.   Their mission quickly unraveled. Confronted by plasmoid defenders, they were forced into retreat, stumbling into the city’s portal to the Elemental Plane of Water. Dragged into its endless, crushing currents, they fought desperately to escape, but at a terrible cost—Achuak and Aryte perished. Rixa, shaken, chose to flee. But Wellan, sensing an opportunity, pressed forward.   Wellan, determined to reach the last crystal, devised a cunning ruse. Feigning grievous injuries, he allowed himself to be captured and taken before a Triton lieutenant, where he spun a tale of traitors within Coralia and a looming attack by another pirate faction, led by Katarina Nessi. His deception worked well enough to earn him an audience with Queen Morganyn and her war council.   While the queen remained wary, she could not afford delays. Choosing to imprison Wellan rather than execute him outright, she turned her focus to defending her city. Yet his words carried an eerie truth—Katarina Nessi’s fleet soon arrived, striking not from above but from below, as her shark-riding warriors launched an underwater assault on the palace.   In the ensuing chaos, Wellan seized his chance, battling Silvester, Katarina’s second-in-command, in a brutal confrontation. Though victorious, Wellan suffered severe injuries and barely escaped with the help of Tarek Harborlan, a pirate who had betrayed Silvester. Together, they hid in the city’s shadows, waiting for the opportune moment to act.   As the hours passed, the tide of battle shifted. The Tritons, forced to withdraw from the surface, reinforced the palace, pushing back Katarina’s forces. But this retreat allowed the Kraken King’s pirates to dive beneath the waves, preparing a new strategy.   Sneaking through the flooded streets, Wellan spied the Kraken King’s mages performing rituals—summoning dragon turtles to turn the tide of battle. Realizing the devastating implications, he rushed back to the palace while Tarek fled to the Garrot, following Wellan's instructions.   Wellan surrendered himself once more, warning the queen of the coming dragon turtles. Still deeply mistrustful of the man who had betrayed the merfolk, Morganyn hesitated. But with no better options, she made a desperate choice—she would flee Coralia, drawing the battle away from her people and buying them time to regroup.   Under the cover of night, Morganyn, her advisors, and Wellan escaped the palace, using Magic to disguise themselves as jellyfish, then polymorphing into sharks to flee undetected. Their destination: The Garrot, the one ship that might offer them passage to safety.   Sam Bellamy, the Garrot’s captain, welcomed the queen aboard. In their council, Morganyn proposed they sail to the coast, where the pirates’ strength would falter on land. But Wellan had other plans.   Recovering from his wounds, he approached Sam in secret with a deadly proposition—kill Morganyn now, while she was at her weakest, before the tides could turn against them again. Sam hesitated, but ultimately agreed, as the queen death would grant Wellan higher powers, and slow the forces now searching for them and the queen. And so, aboard the Garrot, bathed in sunlight, Wellan and Sam invited the queen to a breakfast, the food and drinks spiced with a philter of love. The queen and her protector poisoned, Wellan struck the final blow. Morganyn fell, the last Cloven Crystal shattered, and with it, the final seal on Tromokratis was undone.
