Carivel

My god, the atmosphere, the culture... I despise Paradosia but even I can acknowledge the beauty of the place.

Carivel is the capital of Paradosia and is also where the nobles and kings assistants reside. 
Carivel is a large city with castles, museums and towering homes across it, whilst also acting as the trade hub and economic centre of Paradosia. 
Many travelers will go to Carivel at some point in their lives simply to see that space that often leaves people who visit breathless at first. 
However, Carivel is symbolic of Paradosia as a whole as it often places a heavy emphasis on luxury and appearances as a way to cover over his less desirable aspects.  This is reflected in the slums of Carivel. Kept underneath the city (literally beneath it's cobblestones and accessible via manned ladders and stations) the slums act as the underbelly and black market where guards regularly patrol uninterrupted and deliver beatings to any unlucky enough to cross them as well as running their own protection rackets on the citizens there who are unable to protect themselves. Corruption is rife and many struggle to survive, let alone leave. 
The underbelly of Carivel is also interesting as it leads directly to the Artery, where the people of Carivel mine the many gems and minerals from this mountain... this is despite the ever rising dangers that they are unearthing from deep inside the volcano... and the magma flows directly above them.
Irregardless of what can be said of Carivel one thing is very clear. It is symbolic of Paradosia as a whole, both good and bad.

Government

Carivel is ruled and watched over by Gregor Viltis and his selected nobles, notably including The Ilustraie Family, The Ambrose Family, The Duvalle Family and the The Throkish Family.
These families assit Viltis in running the city day to day and notably ask for his consultation on various matters and topics.

Defences

The city notably has a heavy presence of Viltis' new uniformed force, the Paradosian Armsbearers, they are also tactically well defended with the Artery on one side offering it 'the high ground'.

Guilds and Factions

Many different thieves guilds and groups lie in the Underbelly of the city, hoping to fill the gap in crime left by the destruction of the Wendel's and the 'change' of the Ilustraie's. These groups include the Paradosian Armsbearers in their most corrupt corners, the Changeling faction known as The Faces and even The Dreamers who have taken their trade of Lotus to all of Paradosia and are currently based in the capital.
