Leah Dayne
Leah Dayne
Leah Dayne is friendly and polite, but quiet. She's a little shy, but warms up easily to nice people. She is much more social when she is in the midst of her select friends. She's a Psychology major, but unlike most in her class, she really does want to help people and eventually get her doctorate in behavioral and cognitive psychology.
Leah is an only child. Her father and mother divorced when Leah was pretty young after Leah's mother had become abusive, maybe due in part to some mental illness or perhaps past abuse—Leah won't reveal the reasons. They each got joint custody of Leah, but it was her father that Leah adored. It was a sweet relationship whenever they were together. The situation was just the opposite when Leah had to endure living with her mother when it was her turn. This convinced Leah that wicked mothers existed not just in fairy tales after all.
When Leah was just starting high school, her Father was killed in a tragic accident. She missed him terribly. Forced to live with her mother full time, their fights intensified on into her high school years. At first, Leah would just capitulate and take it, but by her senior year, she started to stand up for herself. It was during this time that Leah's powers began to emerge, although she wasn't fully aware of it yet. Unconsciously, she began to use her powers on her mother despite not having any control or precision, and slowly she began to realize her capacity.
Her father had left Leah enough money for her to go to college, so she secretly planned her escape. As soon as she turned 18, she bought a one-way bus ticket to a small, western town in the mountains where she would never have to deal with her mother again. As it so happens, Western State University has a surprisingly good Psychology department.

Mental characteristics
Gender Identity
feminine female
Sexuality
Leah is bi-sexual, but she feels a stronger attraction toward women so she believes she is a lesbian. But she is also attracted to men on occassion. This is enough to throw her into enough doubt that she questions her orientation. She keeps her sexuality hidden publicly and hasn't even come out to anyone yet, especially not her conservative mother who would actually attempt to take her to some kind of conversion ministry if she could.
Education
University Class Emphasis: Psychology
Employment
As part of her studies, Leah helps the department run psychology experiments or assists with the state mental hospital.
Failures & Embarrassments
Main Character Flaws: Meek, shy and lacks confidence in herself. Leah may not always find the courage to step up, especially when she second-guesses herself. Inaction.
Leah and her mother do not get along at all. It's a very toxic relationship, and this is an embarrassment to her. Leah keeps this animosity secret from everyone else. And perhaps her nice, meek behavior is a reaction to this relationship (family systems theory) where she consciously or subconsciously behaves in the exact opposite manner. She also feels guilty about it, too, since it's already difficult being a woman of color in a very white Western town and there's "nobody like her" to relate to.
Morality & Philosophy
"Be nice, gentle, and non-aggressive at all times." Leah really doesn't want to rock any boats. She'd much rather everything be peaceful forever, no hassles. And she wants to help people find serenity in their own lives, too.
Ensemble Philosophy: Realist due to taking the middle ground or "Third Option", mediation, objectivity, decisiveness, balance between the group's well-being and the goal, personal code, calm and quiet, leadership, experience, adaptability, and willingness to bend the rules.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Wants to become a mental health councilor and psychologist
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Leah is probably the smartest person in the Broken. While Jerry technically has a higher I.Q., the well-rounded awareness and perspective that Leah brings makes her the smartest overall.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes: cute cat videos, chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven, fuzzy bunny slippers
Dislikes: horror movies, gross stuff, mean people
Virtues & Personality perks
level-headed, thinks things out
Social
Family Ties
Her father had left Leah enough money for her to go to college, so she secretly planned her escape. As soon as she turned 18, she bought a one-way bus ticket to a small, western town in the mountains to attend the college there, where she would never have to deal with her mother again.
Religious Views
Leah has become pretty non-religious in college.
The evangelical Christian church her mother dragged her to every Sunday was pretty intense and conservative—basically the speaking in tongues, dancing around with serpents kind, talking more about ways the Devil was corrupting society than topics of love, forgiveness, and such. Of course, one of the favorite topics was about the sinful taboo of homosexuality. And because Leah was becoming aware of her attraction towards women, her sexual orientation was terribly repressed and hidden. As Leah grew up, she accepted herself and rejected pretty much all religion.
Social Aptitude
Leah is somewhat of an introvert, but social and sweet. She likes her select, close-knit friends and looks for ways to have group fun.
Working with Others: Leah likes to work with others, but she isn't a natural leader…much more a follower. She tends to be democratic and will go along with everyone else's consensus. But her mental acuity is sharp and she is a good strategist when things get tough for The Broken.
Hobbies & Pets
Music: Alternative Rock, Pop, some fun Dance
Of anyone in The Broken, Leah is most likely to get a pet. But she doesn't have one at the moment.Wealth & Financial state
Leah's father died when she was young, but had the foresight to leave her a fair amount of money for college. While not rich, the sum was good enough to leave her comfortable, and can afford her semi-trendy lifestyle (but she is frugal enough no to go overboard out of respect for him).
Morality: usually good, very rarely neutral
Guys? This would be so much better if we all just got along and talked things out, don't you think?
