The Crown Court
Grimmaz gets to deal with the Crown Court in the Aachen Palace. This will help stabilize his hold on Eschbach and hopefully elevate his status in the Crown Court.
Plot points/Scenes
ACT 1
Grimmaz has arrived in Aachen and soon finds the court as dangerous as the battlefield. He has to deal directly with other nobles, namely the de Rais, de Sade, de Ath, and Fitzsimons families. They will try to get elements out of him and he has to tread carefully with some, blatantly aggressive with others, and a few deals with others. The war will also be discussed and a couple of little side tracks.
When he arrives he is approached by Count de Ath who gets him to go to speak to Charlemagne. It is a private audience and they will ask him if he is prepared to marry Countess Gabrielle de Rais. Grimmaz will more than likely reiterate that he won't. As soon as they hear this, they will send a commander of Charlemagne's personal guard to tell her that it's not happening. They will warn him that she may try to have him assassinated.
The next order of business is in the actual court. Grimmaz will find most will try to get a deal with him and Eschbach. The de Rais will try to get the Western Tower and Goblintown handed over to them. Grimmaz has a say and any outcome, especially with his charter for both, will go in his favour.
The de Sade family will try to get access to the Burgeaters and try to have an interrogator / torturer / executioner of their choosing there. Grimmaz will have the final say and may have to to a bit of fast talking, bribery or the like to make sure the de Sade family doesn't get this or a reduced role if Grimmaz allows it.
The de Ath family will be led by Count de Ath. He will reveal that he is heavily involved with the Thieves of Frankia, and that his own family doesn't have much for Grimmaz.
The Fitzsimons family wants to be involved with the business side of Eschbach. They will look to act as a form of banker and want to help run the local merchant's guild. They will act as tax collectors too if wanted. It is up to Grimmaz and whether he wants any of these or something different.
Sometime during this time and the follow few weeks, Grimmaz will have two assassination attempts. One will be poisoned ale, and another will be an actual assassin. Any poison attacks will be a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or end up Poisoned for a turn, and
He'll be called up to go into combat at least twice, during the Saxon Wars. Small raids just hitting camps & basic strongholds. Grimmaz will have to take out the Thegns leading the enemy troops.
ACT 2
Grimmaz goes hunting for horses that once belonged to the de Rais. He has to get to a camp over the border into Saxon lands. It is a military camp and they are trying to train some of the men as cavalry.
The horses are hard to work with as they are used to working with the de Rais.
He will have to kill the local thegn by the name of Rudger. If killed, his troops may flee. Also, Grimmaz is given 10 troops from the de Ath forces, and have 5 troops from the Burgeaters that had came up from Eschbach.
If he is successful, he can take the horses back to Aachen. There is about 10 horses. He will be thanked by Gabrielle de Rais. She won't make a move against him for some time. Also, he is asked if he wants a puzzle box created by le Marchand and one of his Configuration boxes. He can refuse at no cost or comeback.
After this, minor court shenanigans take place.
At some point a delivery of payment from the Thieves of Frankia will be left off by a Kenku called Arne, who is part of an adventurers party that's passing through from Eshbach to up north. He's not allowed in as Grimmaz is in a meeting.
