Candlekeep

Candlekeep is a massive citadel-fortress and repository of knowledge on the Sword Coast that is famous across Toril for the wealth and breadth of knowledge available in its halls.

Demographics

While Candlekeep often had visitors, its permenant residents were known as the Avowed. Despite the fortress' impressive size, there were never more than a few hundred Avowed at any one time.

History

Candlekeep was founded by the great scholar Aluando, who created a collection of prophecies that foresaw many great events that have come to pass in Faerun and many that have yet to come.

Tourism

While many visitors flocked to Candlekeep to study its priceless collection of knowledge, a great many were also turned away due to Candlekeep's strict entrance policy. Any person that intended to enter Candlekeep had to bring with them a tome, book, or pamphlet that had never before graced its halls, gifting it to Candlekeep as the cost of their admission. These works could range from lost historical epics to unpublished works by prolific authors, but if the value of the gift was found wanting, a prospective visitor would not be allowed inside.
