Oblivion

The First Age

    The Spark
    Era beginning/end

''A seed was planted by primal chaos and eternal law, long ago. A calamity of will and power enlightened a spark of freedom, that would set forth a motion of creation. Creation within creation. A small flicker of flame, just enough to satisfy self embedded vanity and a hunger for an audience.
Some would call it a curse, others a choice, some would even impose that it was a blessing. Nonetheless it shaped the hungry seed of sentience, in the image of restless creation. Never to be fulfilled. Thus we carry the heart for both law and chaos and the urge to create and be seen. That is the image of the world and the path of all.''
Written by Neverlass Elías, The Spark of Creation, 1342 AE, The Third Age

The Dawn

1 AD 62 AD

As the fire and passion of life expand, the intricate web of civilization takes its first few steps on the surface of Pangea. A step towards complexity and civility amongst the sapient races of the Mother and Father.

    The Birth of the Dawn
    Era beginning/end

''The wailing and howling of life screamed across the planes, as the first dawn was given, and then observed by sapient existence on Pangea. A pondered reflection of more powerful and intelligent beings, willed onto the Pangean surface many eons ago, now given a new perspective and doomed appreciation for things they would never comprehend in their entirety. Forever made to watch and bow down, before the coming dawn and its inevitable blossoming.''

    Elysium
    Founding

''As the hills came to a point, they weaved warm fields with rich soil upon dark earth, and from there, the sea took over like blue gems made liquid. Vibrant and furious like the sword and heart of a warrior. This is where we shall build our home, this is the place we pin our short lives to celebrate them in immortality with banners of gold and purple blazing the air we breathe, hanging from spears and pillars lifting the very heavens of our father the Sun''.

    Early Conquests
    Military action

According to historical notes, as early as 15 AD to as late as 32 AD, the first large-scale invasions and conquests took place. When the Dormæeus, Chosen of Eos, were sent south of the Heartstones to defeat the southern and western tribes, which at the time consisted mainly of orcs, giants, and other primal beasts.
This would then lead to the formation of the Riverlands, around the Frailmark, later one of Zenith's most contested and warriddled regions.
In large parts, the conquests were succesful, and the Dormæeus was rewarded with kingdoms of their own, forming two new nations under the Ellisiat banner: Versille and Virmia.

    Founding of the Riverlands
    Founding

The birth of the Riverlands came in the wake of the era of conquests, proving the laws of the First Pillar of man against beast. The orcish tribes and withering giant nations were forced to bend or flee from the might of the Ellisiat armies led by the Dormæus.
They founded the Riverlands of Versille and Virmia, becoming a defensive fist against any attempted retaliation, slowly blossoming under the Sun's warmth and power.

The Mighty Dwarves of the Ellisiats are asked to bolster the defenses of the Riverlands, making a stronghold at the edge of Frailmark, that will also serve as a shortcut through the mountains. The dwarves agree on the condition they get to name a king amongst themselves, and so the son of Törstal, Mathias Östrada becomes the first dwarven king in history, forming the Stronghold of Östra.

    Pandemonium
    Population Migration / Travel

The Great Dwarven houses appealed to Eos when they began to feel the draw of their Father, Ydranor, speaking to them. With her blessing, a separation saw a large group of dwarves migrate as pilgrims to the North and the East guided by the booming tones of the Earth and the gentle whispers of the Wind. There they journeyed until they found the Stoney Bells of the High Rung and the hidden depths beneath it. They proclaimed it a holy land, forming the Kingdoms of Pendalla and Pandomine.
'' It was told that from the winds facing the harsh stones above, tunnels carried the voice into the heart beneath, creating howling whispers and the ever-present sound of distant bells... And so the Dwarven King Geivar proclaimed it Pandemonium...''

    The Betrayal of Eos
    Disaster / Destruction

The tragic murder of Queen Eos, the daughter of Helios, caused a change in the religious and political landscape of the Western World. As the central pillar of faith and unity in the Ethereon Kingdom, surrounding nations, and territories, her death meant the crumbling and ultimate destruction of a lot of diplomatic relationships and religious partnerships. The Twilight Curriculum
    Diplomatic action

As is common knowledge today, the Elves brokered peace through their willingness to teach the arcane. While relations were still young, schools and academic initiatives were formed around the heartlands of Elysium with the purpose of bonding Humans and Elves through common interests. This would then later pay off when the elves were given lands to call their own.
These negotiations and initiatives were led by - at the time - a little-known organization that would later go on to control the tides of many plots and wars, for better or for worse: The Prismatic Array.

    Population Migration / Travel

As the heavens was snuffed of its light, the chaos of magic entered the scene. Hiding in the long, looming shadows of purple, wistful twilight. From the lands of the fey, races whom have - as of yet - made a far longer journey from across the planes. Migrated onto the booming and blossoming landscape of Pangea, guided by their traveling patreon Astraeus.
The race of Elves appeared like strange reflections of humans, if only more beautiful and graceful. Far older, and wiser. But also a lot more prideful.
In their hands they brought with them the ability to tame the forces of magic, and extended this knowledge as an offering of peace and goodwill.

Handed to them by the meager and weak council of the Ellisiats, who were still in disarray after the death of Eos, the Twin Eyes were theirs. He raised a spire, torn by chains, and upon it he founded Argon.

    Ruins and Runes
    Cultural event

The Youngest of the Dragon Lords, The Copper Dragon, Miraxis, for unknown reasons, favored the Dwarves. And so, after Eos died, he flew north, to the Pendulum and the Copper Clasp, where he familiarized himself with the Great dwarven houses of Pendalla and Pandemonia. He became infatuated with their dedication to their crafting and smithing, and on the eve of his passing, he wanted to bequeath them a gift fit for their friendship. From his scales, as he transitioned into death, great runes and smithing secrets were written. The Oath-breakers
    Disbandment

In quiet of slumbering dark, the vast seas stood unexplored and unclaimed. A group of sailors braved the solemn seas to the north of Elysium, and shipwrecked on the shattered isles. They spoke of a voice calling out to them, convincing them to break their oaths to Helios and his realm of sun and gold. Sealing their souls within the crashing of salt, black rock, and water. Forever marked as betrayers, and breaker of oaths.

''Dreams always end... And too often on the clasp of a nightmare.''
    - Lionel Zeslim, a Poet's Guide to Everything
Though the Wars of Dusk was cut short by the intervention of the Goddess Selene, that very triumph could not last forever, and as with all things oppressed; it shall only grow in power and forcefullness. The Sunlight Rebellions and the Red Dawn became that retaliation.
It was said the sky turned red, as Helios broke through the spell of his Sister, and so his armies burned the world in the name of vengeance and the loss of his daughter. 30 years of wrathful retribution and war followed that nearly returned the earth to the ooze from which it came, and where it not for the persuasiveness of Astraeus the world might never have known another dawn.

The Ethereum

    The Ethereum Pact
    Religious event

Astraeus watched his brother and sister warring against each other, tearing the world asunder in the process. For years the world bled and cried an ocean of pain.
The God of Twilight extended his hands in peace, urging his siblings to bury their anger and fury, showing them the results of their fighting. And so, the sun and the moon looked upon the earth and agreed that no good did come from their war. Through that agreement, they created a pact between the three of them, that said that they would from this day forth share the heavens. Creating the cycles of day and night, that we have come to rely on.
The Pact would then force upon any deity to separate themselves from Mortal Affairs, so as to not break the delicate balance thus established. Should any dare challenge the pact, the wrath of all would shower from the deep skies.
    - The Grail of Dawn, Passage 21:7

    The Blackflame Initiative
    Founding

In the changing landscape of the Ethereum, the Golden Ordeal would no longer suffice in keeping the ideology of the Altar protected, and thus the Blackflame Initiative was created. An order of subterfuge, espionage, and whispers. Raised to thrive in the shadow of the Sun.

    The Sovereign Reemergence
    Religious event

The influence of the Gods is strangely fickle, more like a stubborn candle than a full flame to most. But as the strength of Helios waned, and his freethinking brother emerged, the visage of the Sovereigns, the primal Gods of Nature, and all her elements, reintroduced themselves. The stage of the world expanded rapidly in the glow of Twilight, as many hearts and souls were swayed by the intrigue and beauty of the old and lost... And it was said that no one embraced that change more wholeheartedly than Astraeus himself.

With seemingly no effect on the gnomes, it was brought back as a gift to the Domæus king Laríon of Blacklance, believed to grant him a divine boon in favor of friendship. When Laríon gracefully accepted the gift, he was not prepared for the influence it would have on his mind and soul.
The tragedy came when the relic poisoned him with paranoia, as well as drawing the desire of every nobleman and neigbouring king it could reach, starting a conflict that saw the eastern Frailmark to ruins. In the aftermath the relic was lost, and the once honorable stronghold of Östra became silent, never to blaze with life again.

This Blackgold would haunt the ages and strengthen his hold, like rotten roots, far after his death.
''The abstract nature of evil and its influence and affection toward life, is very much akin to the shadow of a river, or the flesh of wind... 20.000 sundering hooves created the echo of terror as they burned and razed everything in their thundering wake, with no one prepared to stop or hinder them.

    The Zenith Consolidation
    Diplomatic action

As an emergency act, the western kingdoms consolidated their powers under the leadership of King Pellos, son of Alexis, in an effort to withstand the might of the Drakelords and stop the legendary Jade Dragon himself.
The young king of Pallisia assertively took charge of the armies of four kingdoms, like he had been destined to do so under the dream-like tutelage of a divine voice. He was joined by the dwarven armies of Gorseech and Deeptrench, as well as the Twilight armies of Astropol, and the free city of Yasol.

Early Empirical Era

692 AD 905 AD

When Pellos returned and crowned himself Emperor, a new era dawned. One steeped in the might and power of mortals, a time of rising empires. Pellos saw himself as equal to the Sunlord, and so blessed himself and his people by giving way to this radical new way of thinking. Blasphemy to some. But who is to stop those in power, without he himself becoming powerful?

    Rise of Pallisia
    Cultural event

When Pellos was given power to control the armies of Zenith to defeat the Jade Dragon, the pact of consolidation only allowed him to stay in power until the threat was dealt with. But as the loyalty of his men and people grew with each victory, the legend he became blinded any possibility of letting that power go...
He declared himself emperor, to the dismay of the nobility and royalty of Zenith. Who was at the time powerless to stop him. He marched his armies proudly into Elysium, met by a joyous parade in his honor. He walked the few steps to the high seat of power in the palace of gold, standing on the grounds of betrayal, and never looked back. He crowned himself Emperor of Pallisia, incorporating Cargoth and Versia under his rule. His new realms stretched all the way to Astropol in the East and the Arctic Pendos in the West. Solidifying the greatness of the ancient bloodline of the Ellisiats once again - three flames became one.

    Pellodic Reforms
    Diplomatic action

Two years into the reign of Pellos of the Pallisiat, he enacted a reform to solidify his rule and to further the prosperity of his dynasty and realm. He invoked the right of primogeniture and gave out titles to his closest allies and loyal advisors. He minted a new coin of gold, with his face on one side and that of Helios on the other. Most of the high-ranking generals from his armies were granted fiefs of their own, as a reward for their service. And slowly the clergymen and bishops of the altar became a separate entity from the rulership. The Aristocratic society and the different diplomatic factions of the people were still allowed a voice in the matter of empirical politics, but now there existed no doubt that the emperor had the final say.
According to most modern historians, this is the move that would begin the slow segregation of church and state in the cultural eye of the coming generations.

No less than two months after their reinstatement, the people rose under a half-elven man named Kanis the Bright, who took reign of the people and led them against the Blackflame.
After two years, the Emperor, Rinn II, surrendered and greatly diminished the Blackflame, giving him the loving name of The Weak Flame.
