APES Coalition

The Anti-Piracy and Economic Security Coalition (APES), is an Orizont-led interstellar organisation aimed at countering piracy and promoting interstellar trade in the Outer Systems, which was established in 2598. It seeks to accomplish these goals partly by establishing standardised space security and communication measures among the members' navies, and by allowing limited naval access between their space, which typically results in Orizonter naval vessels partially taking over patrols and other tasks from local security forces. Additionally, in order to overcome barriers to commerce brought about by unreliable wormhole gateways, Orizont leverages its shipbuilding sector to produce jump-capable merchant and cargo ships, and sell them to member states with the aid of favourable loans. Member states include the Republic of Distira, the Grand Principality of Koyuk, the Democratic Republic of Morobe, the Judicate of Nuragia, the Union of Interstellar Communes, and some members of the Confederated Republics of Luax.
Compared to the rival FRZT-led Spacelane Restoration Initiative, the APES Coalition has only resulted a small to moderate economic improvement in the region. However, it has reduced the threat of piracy in member states considerably, and has given Orizont leverage over them through its loans to them, as well as through the direct presence of Orizont naval assets throughout their space (even if this is limited to relatively small patrol ships).
