dwarves Species in The Old World (1.Order) | World Anvil

dwarves

Darves are one of the seven mortal races. They are small but sturdy and live in caves and caverns in the mountains. From the day of their creation they mostly keep to themself and worry only little about the other races problems. They only come to aid in battle when they feel their own realm threatend. The only other mortal race they have a close to friendly bond with are the gnomes.
The dwarves are very secretive about their crafts, settlements and language and eye all strangers and travellers with suspicion. Anyone seemingly sneeking through a valley or over a mountainpass that happens to lead to a dwarf-dwelling can be suddenly ambushed and executed for "stealing secrets", a very severe crime in dwarf law.
Even those visiting the dwarfs on public errands are often treated grumpy and rough which lead to the assumption dwarves were in general a grumpy and mean people. While they surely are grumpy in character this is often not meant to be offending but simply their way. However this grumpieness leads often to misunderstandings and conflicts.
They have an obsession with the craft of rock and precious stone that is understood by no other race and is therefore eyed with some suspicion. However dwarves are the first great architects long before the Humans and are often hired for great constructions

Basic Information

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves are known to be great meat eaters. Living high up in the mountains there are not many greens that can be grown. Only few grains grow at these altitudes and provide the dwarves with bread. Another thing dwarves are exeptionally well known for is their mead. Not practising much agriculture leaves place for many wild flowers and herbs to grow and attracts bees of wich the dwarves collect the honey to make their famous brew.
