Nymphs are immortal spirits, strongly connected to the element water. They reside in all sorts of water places, be it lakes, rivers, streams or the sea. After the end of the great demonwar they withdraw from the mortal races and settle down each in their chosen water sources. Remaining here for ages they develop differences in character according to the body of water they chose.

Sea nymphs are an almost warlike people, quick-tempered and irascible ike the sea, beautiful and temting when calm yet horrible and deadly when angered. They live in caves under high cliffs or deep under water and come out to play with the fish in the water or the hearts of mortals.
River nymphs are a little calmer, quicker to laugh altough still horrible when angry. their moods can also change quicker but may not be as extrem as a sea nymph. River nymps also are playful which may be their most dangerous treat as it makes them seem harmless. These are the most encountered nymphs, or at least the most encountered ones were afterwards someone lived to tell the story.
Lake nymphs for last are the most calm and wise, often with a touch of melancholy that can be infectious. Altough lake nymphs rarely kill on purpose the sadness they radiate can drive people to insanity and into suicide.

Next to encountering a dragon an encounter with a nymph might be the most perilious thing to happen to a traveller.
