dwarves

Dwarves are one of the seven mortal races. Altough not a protagonist during the great demonwar they often supported the other races with great machinery and skillfully made weapons. They also played an importat part in the planning of strategies and devising of battle plans. Compared to some other races their losses were only small. Therefore they recovered quite quickly. But instead of spreading over vast areas of land they delved deep in all the great mountains.

History

During the second Order the dwarves developed a close relation with the dragons , closer then any other mortal and immortal race. Both races had a strong love for gold and stone. Together these two created architectual wonders that long outlived this Order. Many of the greatest lords and also the godking payed them richly for their craftsmenship.

Over time however greed began to spread among both dragons and dwarves, each craving for one they could only get from the other. An unquenchable hunger for gold grew in the hearts of the dragons, but with their clwas they could not mine it. The dwarves however, inspirated by the natural heat resistance of dragonskin began a trade with skinparts and scales of the dragons that sometimes would fall of and could make the finder very rich. The dragons however did not approve of this trade. Their disapproval turned to hatred as one of their kind was slain by a group of young dwarves hunting for treasure.

The dragons then turned on the dwarves and their wrath burned hot. In the terrible battle that followed many dwarves fell. For the attack of the dragons was swift and wihout warning and hit the dwarves unexpected. But stout as they were they soon returned the fight and slew some of their opponents. Finally the dwarves had to retreat into their caves and caverns, where the tunnels were to small for the dragons to enter. The great front halls often made extra large to fit the dragons were plundered of all gold and jewels.
The dwarves cursed the dragons , for at first they did not understand their sudden attack. Only slowly they made sense of the few words they had managed to understand in the battlecries of the dragons.

Ever after the dwarves seldom left their mountain kingdoms.
