Summer Camp 2023

Goal

My goal for this world is to build the fundamental world for my book. The aim is to have everything in place so I can use the world as a guide to direct the trajectory of the novel.
The story will be dark and sometimes painful. It will be an 18+ paranormal romance that will be based on the reader's world events that are relatable, emotional, and tangible. The goal is to have the reader think about the similarities of the real world compared to the books world.

Here are a few key themes and challenges that will be used throughout the book

• Choices: We all make them, sometimes we make the right ones and other times we make mistakes.

• Ethics and values: Where do ethics come from? Who teaches us values? How do we use them in our everyday lives? If we were to face an unsurmountable challenge, would we hold true to our values?

• Power: Power is in everything that we do from the power of our heart to pump blood through our bodies to the power we give up to the people who abuse us. Will we use our power for good or our power to manipulate?

Badge of Choice

A diamond can slice through the heart of a lover if wielded by the devil. It can lure the greediest of people to corruption and chaos. A diamond is seductive and tantalizing and promises great power.

Plan of Action

My goal is to write every Sunday morning. It is typically more quiet in morning allowing me to focus. However, given that I have set a tall goal, I will need to allot time during the week to write. Therefore, I will book Sunday and Tuesday mornings for writing.
I will hyper-focus on the prompts of the week and less on the total number of prompts completed. The core plot line of the book is the reestablishment of the balance of power, so the summer camp theme is puurrfect (meow!)

World

At the present moment (I may change the name later on) the world is called A New Realm. The basis of the story is that the ancient giants of the earth are sent to a new realm as the earth is amid a drought. Over the years, the folk have rebuilt their communities and social structures.

Theme One... Power

1. Character Article, who is the villain? The power of leadership.
2. Condition Article, An earthquake ripples through the new realm. The power of a natural disaster.
3. Material Article, A new raw material is discovered. The power of intellect, resourcefulness and ingenuity.
4. Settlement Article, the folk move to the deposit to mine the metal. The power of community.
5. Profession Article, the folk become minors. The power of the worker.
6. Item Article, the finest swords are created by the blacksmiths. The power of a weapon.
7. Traditions Article, A new marriage tradition is created. The power of political unions.
8. Religion Article, A new set of values form. The power of unified values.
9. Document Article, A new law comes into place. The power of sanctioned laws.
10. Conflict Article, A small skirmish happens within the city. The power of a rebellion.

Theme Two... Frontiers

The New Realm is by default a new frontier. The power of the elite dragons heaved the giants of ancient earth through the space between universes and landed on a planet similar to earth. Folk who were a mix of beta dragons, alpha dragons, and omegas emerged from the smoke broken. They relied on their survival skills in the face of an unknown world. Within days of arrival, many died. Fights broke out in the quest for power and control. Fear, desperation and chaos seeped into the haphazard camps. Not long after their arrival, power hungry leaders created fractions, splitting the folk into groups.
It took time for the folk to settle into an unstable peace. Commonly known as the “tumultuous years”, the “100 Years of Turmoil” was a mixture of the unknown, strife, and surges of power exchanges between leaders. Many leaders fought to gain power, only to lose it to another leader. The beta folk who had shorter lifespans than the alphas and significantly less power were at the mercy of the aggressive alphas. Laws that were followed in old earth were no longer respected. New vegetation either sustained the folk or poisoned them. Wild creatures preyed on the weak and young on the edges of the settlements.
Although the beginning was bleak, the folk learned the terrain in a series of successes that were backed with multitudes of failures. Through ingenuity, they discovered similarities to the old earth and mastered them. Some of the newly discovered features proved more useful than what was available on old earth. Successes led to social advancement, and inhabitants used their strength and resourcefulness to capitalize on them.

Theme Three... Relics

Scholars brought manuscripts from Old Earth that detailed the land, animals and biology. Other manuscripts were medicinal manuscripts for healing and engineering manuscripts for building. Regrettably, a handful of manuscripts were lost.
Besides Old Earth manuscripts, New Realm relics that still have important historical interest were created. The existence of religious relics and clan shields shows the development of communities within the New Realm.

Theme Four... Communication

Communication is essential to society. As we have seen in our own evolution, humans have harnessed the power of communication. Communication, in its many forms, has been key to survival. In addition, communication is essential in wartime and pivotal to peace negotiations. It has recorded key historical cornerstones, and left hints to prehistoric existence. Communication has equally brought inhabitants together or torn them apart.
Harnessing the use of communication is powerful. Leaders with a thirst for power will manipulate communication to steer the masses in their desired direction. Key communication points in the New Realm will include:

• Language. Dialect and terms inevitably evolve. The New Realm forced the folk to work together. As a result, the New Realm language became a combination of different words from different cultures from Old Earth. This can be seen prominently through the different terms throughout the world.
• Properganda manipulates truths and beliefs. Powerful leaders spread whispers and gossip within the communities to twist the truth and bend the will of folk.
• Education is communicating a selection of commonly believed notions to a group of people. Likewise, the deficiency of education leads to suppression. Education is a privilege reserved for the elite, which has led to the creation of a language exclusive to those in positions of power. This keeps the common folk oppressed.
• Social norms play a crucial role in communicating among society. Society is structured where it allows certain people to speak, but expects others to keep quiet. If they disobey, there are consequences.
• Stories are sung by bards. These stories are oral history, which draws a crowd, keeps traditions, and recounts the heroism of prominent leaders.
• Common gestures are also communication. Whether it is a welcoming gesture of peace or a common insult.
• Secret languages or code are used to avoid attention and to deliver secret messages.
• The significance of historical relics lies in their ability to tell us stories of the past. Furthermore, tales of the past teach people how to live a virtuous life. Historical relics, however, can also be lost, erasing history.

These are just a few examples of the communication methods that will be used in The New Realm.
