Romaluku (ro.maˈlu.ku)

"This used to be a fairly remote outpost, mostly chasing pirates and protecting shipments from the mines. It's a little disconcerting that we're now the largest naval base in the Kingdom of Gailo."

Romaluku is a small island in the Lamofo Islands, a part of the Mangimoi Archipelago. It was the first island in the Lamofo group to be annexed by the Kingdom of Gailo, following the discovery of gold in the interior. It is lightly populated, with a mix of Pulawan and Anma fishing villages. The largest settlement is Masagora, a port maintained by the navy of Gailo. When the gold was first discovered, there issues with piracy and Masagora was established to protect the ships carrying gold for the kingdom. In the aftermath of the incident at Tubu, Masagora has become one of the largest naval installations belonging to the Kingdom of Gailo.

Notable Spirits

The forests of Romaluku are home to the Fu'ane, a group of shapeshifting spirits. They typically appear as either golden deer or hornbills, although they can take on the form of any animal. They are mischevious, and known to steal or sabatoge equipment, and to lead people astray in the woods. They can even take the forms of people they have seen to play tricks. One way to tell if a person is actually a Fu'ane is to ask them to speak. The spirits can only make animal sounds, and will either remain silent or flee if required to talk. They can also be distracted by offerings of cooked meat or alchol, and will gather around any such gifts for hours, leaving the people who presented them unmolested.

Geography

Romaluku is a small island shaped roughly like two adjacent circles, with the smaller one to the southwest of the larger. The interior is dominated by heavily forested hills, with a few low mountains. There are several streams that crisscross the island, and it was in these that gold was first discovered. Since then, several veins of gold and other precious minerals have been found, most in the vicinity of Gunung Taur, the highest point on the island.

The Fu'ane sound like fun. Not if they are harrassing you, obviously, but in general.

They are just playful, and maybe don’t understand why being lost in the woods for a week would be upsetting ;)   Just put out some roast pork and a ***tail and they’ll be fine.

Love the fu'ane! Hornbills are a big favourite so their mention put a smile on my face in particular. I can also relate to being distracted by some good beer.
