Nagahasana (nəɡəˈɦɑsənə)

The Nagahasana are an ethnic group of Kikipua which split from the Naga ethnicity centuries ago, when they migrated from Saba to the island of Irlatxikia, with the goal of establishing an ideal society based on their philosophy, which is called Hansee ka Pyaar. Hansee ka Pyaar translates roughly to "Love of Laughter", and the Nagahasana believe that laughter is a key component of all activities, particularly physical ones. Most Nagahasana make a daily practice of laughing at every opportunity, and laughter is incorporated into virtually every part of their culture, with the aim of seeing to the true nature of the world by means of finding the ridiculous and delightful elements embedded within.

Physical Appearance

The Nagahasana resemble the Naga greatly, with green scales and yellow eyes. They tend to be tall, with slender builds. A typical Nagahasana will be around 5'10 and weigh about 140 pounds. Like all Kikipua, there is little variation in size between male and female Nagahasana. Some Nagahasana have small crests of feathers, a trait that most likely came from a few early Taniyn who joined the community when it was founded.

Common Dress & Style

The Nagahasana favor loose flowing robes that are dyed in bright colors and patterns. They will also adorn them with tassells, bells, and feathers dangling along the edges, which contribute to a sense of whimsy. When dealing with the Uhartekoa, they will ususally forgo the robes since they make the Uhartekoa uncomfortable, despite the fact the Nagahasana are not susceptible to infestation by the parasitic Bizkarroia. Even then, they will always wear a long necklace that features hand carved wooden beads, along with any small object that struck the wearer's fancy. These necklaces are called Ruhmala, and the Nagahasana will add to it over the course of their life, and can tell stories about each item. The Ruhmalas of older Nagahasanas are often very long, and they wear them looped several times over so they will not drag on the ground.

Religion & Folklore

The Nagahasana acknowledge the spirits that are integral to the entire world, and will often spend time talking to the various object, animals, and plants around them. However, they do not hold them in any higher regard than other creatures - a god is as ridiculous as an ant, and those who are too puffed up to see the humor in life must be aided along the path to good-natured humility. On the island of Irlatxikia, there are no major gods. However, like the rest of the Biluzik Archipelago, the island is unusually conducive to eidolons hanging about after death, and the Nagahasana are happy to converse with their ancestors on an equal footing with all other beings.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Main Article: Nagari

The Nagahasana speak a dialect of Nagari that is quite distinct from that spoken on Saba, but is still mutually intelligible.

Foods & Cuisine

Like all Kikipua, the Nagahasana are obligate carnivores. Their diet primarily consists of seafood, although they are also fond of many invertabrates. Snails are particularly prized, and the Nagahasana raise over a dozen species of snail for consumption. A popular dish among them is a snail that has been steamed in the shell, and then dusted with a spice blend immediately before being eaten. The spices used are considered fairly mild to the Kikipua, but humans, Selkies, Aethry, and Kitsunejin all agree that it they are inedibly hot.
