Taygestronesian Civil War

Also called the Oligarchic Civil War, the War of Taygestronese Containment, or Lanaxdrodite's Revenge, this conflict marks the breaking of relations between the Delothian Collective and the Lanaxdrian Warrior States and her allies.

To the Delots and their constituent clusters, this is a war to contain the violence between oligarchic-royals from spilling out of the Lanaxdrian cluster: The Asteroid Range of the Taygestronese.

To the Lanaxdrians and their allies, this is a war to break the Collective's tyrannical regime over the Hellecian Sector. As well as retribution for the murder of their princess Lanaxdrodite at the Festival of Shattered Gold; which sparked the Lanaxdrian Revolt on Thessalis-Prime.

Following the revolt, the Lanaxdrians spread across the Sector and seemingly disappeared. Decades followed as many believed they died off or drifted off into a nearby star.

Fearing the damage this conflict would bring, UHP Rector Dysomus broke his Vows of Historical Non-Interference and assembled the Psygonauts to prevent this war from happening.

Coming so close to a compromise, the war continued as scheduled by those who instigated events from the shadows.

Oligarchs vs Democrats:

While the conflict between the Lanaxdrians and Delots are more than purely ideological, the primary differences between the two sides are Oligarchy rooted in antiquated honor-based traditions vs. Democracy as an automated system of bureaucratic drones.

Just like the real Peloponnesian Wars, these ideologies and history of animosity between their progenitors (Dodrus & Archaenus) perpetuated a war that'll end when either one side or the other will be utterly destroyed.

For the Lanaxdrians, their legendary hoplons are nearly invincible on land and even in the vacuum of space.

Along with superior commanders and disciplined squads, the Warrior States use large asteroids and space debris to maneuver through enemy ship formations and either crush or board enemy Star-decks from the outside.

Their main weakness is their troop numbers and a lack of a centralized navy.

While Dodrians weren't designed to reproduce, the process of making full-grown, up-to-snuff Lanaxdrian hoplons takes time. And with a sector-wide war, there's always a lack of capable Lanaxdrians in action.

As for their navy, the Professional Guilds of Aeonite Craftspeople provide the star-decks needed to move their troops around their clusters. However, the quality and quantity of a Lanaxdrian navy varies as most vessels are merchant ships outfitted with military armaments.

While meeting a Delot navy in open combat would be suicide, the Lanaxdrians use their non-standard ships as troop transports to sneak through blockades or as diversions to lured unsuspecting ships onto favorable terrain.

For the Delots, the size and scope of their navy, their automated administration structure dictated by the DTOS, and their superior Ionite admirals made the Collective's commercial empire virtually unstoppable.

Allied clusters and planets are forced to comply with Delot administration to even participate in sector-wide trade (seeing as the Collective run the DST Accelerator Lanes) or out of fear of "democratic assimilation."

Their resources allow the Collective to field fleets of Quadra-Decks and billions of Delot drones to dominate the sector.

However, the main weakness of Collective forces is their drone quality and contentious nature of Delot high command's Democratic Bureaucracy.

Even though the backbone of the Collective are mass-produced drones, controlled by Delot citizens from the safety of Delot server worlds. They're fatally flawed due to their buggy software and weak chassis.

While the Collective will always have the numerical advantage. The quality of these numbers will keep the Collective from winning the decisive victories needed to end the war.

Their numbers are usually bolstered by local Hoplon Militia Corps. But the organic side of their armies tend to fit in poorly with the rigid and highly inflexible formations.

Seeing as facing Lanaxdrian hoplons in the field would be suicide, Collective forces tend to stay on their Star-Decks and use their naval superiority to keep cells of enemy combatants isolated.

To make matters worse, Delot forces are incapable of taking any military action without being ratified on the Collective's Web of Public Forums.

Which means, all military actions are directly controlled by the changing whims of the Delot citizenry; including punishment of under-performing admirals. Leading to slow military response time and many disgruntled high-command Delots to defect simply because they were sent into an unwinable scenario.

Conclusion:

While both seem to be evenly matched against each other's weakness. This stalemate keeps the sector in a constant state of conflict, using mercenaries to chip away at each other where tradition and democracy get in the way.

The Psygonauts must find a way to bring an end to this conflict and reunite the Patrokonoi-Hellecia to stop an even bigger threat than a sector-wide civil war.
