UHP Rector Dysomus

While many of his people have resigned themselves to their cursed fate as wandering laborers, UHP Rector Dysomus represents the chaste spirit of the Ionites to atone for the Diaspma or holy stain placed on them for breaking their vows and murdering the Gods they once served.

Origins:

While the specifics of his life from his childhood up to his induction into the prestigious Ionite institution of the Universal Historial Parish are a mystery. His experience would be typical of most Ionite pilgrims:

Born aboard "The Reliquary" or the Ionite Flotilla flagship, raised in the ship's macabre and introspective setting to establish a sense of monastic penance in the greater Ionite community, his Ichorized abilities develop at puberty, presented the choice between colonial or monastic career paths, joins the Universal Historical Parish, is selected as a Rector (a mixture of a historian, scientist & a priest), and is given a new name to reflect their sorrowful state in the universe.

This life cycle will be seen when The Psygonauts board "The Reliquary" for the Parish's inquest in to the allegations Dysomus broke his Vows of Observation (the worst crime a rector can commit).

For the most part, Dysomus is a typical rector who possesses all the education and skills of a certified rector (with apprenticeship under legal historian UHP Rector Lethe).

Unlike most rectors, Dysomus has a more hands-on approach to studying history. Seeing the necessity to overturn every rock and diciphering the truth later in order to uncover the most hidden mysteries of the universe.

But the See of the Parish' Archdiocese discourages studying this type of knowledge as it's pursuit leads to the corrupting influence of pride & selfish ambition.

His vows also keep him from investigating sources in the more seedier organizations of the sector (such as the various cults of the CHONPS Mysteries) while also forbidding any rector to coerce any Hellecian to violate sacred vows of any kind.

However, Dysomus also possesses a skill for finding loopholes in legal briefs (thanks to his time as UHP Rector Leche's legal aid) that allowed him to pursue this knowledge from the shadows while also keeping his vow of observation intact (his methods are regularly called into question).

In fact, if it wasn't for Dysomus' efforts, The Psygorellius would've been disassembled and Dylos would still be stuck in the Ilocanos-7 shipyards.

Aboard the Psygorellius:

Acting as the ship's historian, Dysomus is the one who usually instigates the primary conflict in each episode (seeing as the secondary purpose of the DTOS' Psygonaut Mandate is to study the universe). Sending the Psygonauts to set probes to help him study an abnormality in space or act as his escort to help him study a specimen on a dangerous/uninhabited planet.

Everything Dysomus does seems to have an ulterior motive only he and the ship's AI "Farrai" (gifted to them after visiting the Oracle at Delphisties) can understand.

However, the crafty monk takes great effort to not overstep his bounds and remain compliant with his vows as a UHP Rector or a mixture between a historian, scientist, and priest. Even providing sage advice to Ollie, AJM-001 & the rest of the crew when spirits are down and/or hope seems lost.

Always letting on knowledge and experience no normal rector should possess.
