King Thesacles

One of the greatest Hellecian heroes from the Age of Anarchy, King Thesacles is the mold all his fellow Hellecians (especially the Archaenids) aspire to fill:

Powerful warrior, legendary commander, godlike strength & physique, monster-slayer, Perxis-bane, captain of The Psygorellius (for several generations), king of the Archaenids, progenitor of democracy & founder of countless royal dynasties across the Hellecian Sector.

If there's an impossible task to be done somewhere in the sector. There's a good chance Thesacles completed it; labeling it a "Thesaclean task." And for most of his life, the arrogant king made sure everyone knew of his greatness.

Eventually, creating a stereotype the Delothian Collective (which he was partially responsible for founding) used to demonize the Archaenid as mindless, brutish, overly-masculine tyrants and encourage the value of becoming a Delot.

Seemingly around the same the legendary king mysteriously disappeared, while attending to "personal matters" away from Dyloth.

Origins:

Thesacles was born to a poor farmer, working the lands as a serf to the Mycestian "Stables" on the palace world of Koth. Living off the scraps of their feudal lords, the future king of the Archaenids was a miracle child.

While wild and impetus, Thesacles could do the work of 20 men and still have energy to playfully thumb his nose at their Mycestians overlords with childish pranks. While nobody could prove he was responsible, the magistrates and his community knew Thesacles was the culprit.

Fearing his strength and their ability to control him, the Mycestians laid a trap for young Thesacles during their sacred harvest festival to Demeter.

While the Mycestian spy was only meant to draw out Thesacles and slip a sacred relic into his satchel. What started as playful jeering turned to Thesacles killing the spy and nearly destroying the provincial palace.

Ready to execute the traitor on the spot without a trial or mediation from the gods, two Mycestian priests (Archaenus & Iodium in disguise) issued a Diaspma or holy stain on Thesacles' soul and the Mycestians were bound to follow the will of the Gods and have Thesacles work off his debt to society.

From Exile to Commander:

As a result, the Mycestian nobles or "horse-hairs" compiled his list of Labors starting with 20 years in the Trozetrian Militia. While unrefined and undisciplined, Thesacles mastered his phalanx firing formation and eventually became his Mycestian commander's second-in-command.

That is until his commander was killed and eaten by a brood of giant sows, during a reconnaissance mission to find the nest of the Crommnean Razorback.

Unable to retrieve their commander's body and marked for execution if they return to base without some proof their innocence in their commander's death. Thesacles went inside the Trozetrian marsh alone and killed the Razorback.

Completing their mission and collect the bits they could find of their commander, Thesacles and company were cleared of all charges while Thesacles completed one of his Labors.

Nicknamed "The Razorbacks", Thesacles and his unit gained the reputation as monster-killers, giant-slayers, and expendable exterminators sent on the monster-infested planet of Trozentrius. Eventually, being responsible for the extinction of 45 species and emptying the forests and bogs of all fauna.

Thesacles served his Mycestian-superiors with distinction while also completing his Labors. Including the legendary extraction of Mycestian nobles trapped on Eceterus-Prime by a labyrinthine, orbital dust cloud surrounded by man-eating minotaurians.

However, on his last labor while investigating a meteor strike, Thesacles and his unit found Archaenus & Iodium.

The progenitors revealed Thesacles' strength was the result of an experiment infusing Ichor or god's blood from the day he was born, being that Archaenus was his birth father.

They also revealed a Mycestian network of lies about their planet being the center of the universe. This was used to keep their people on the surface and focused on their farming to fund the construction of the gods' new planet-city called Karoj-Menos.

And how Thesacles was going to help them destroy both the gods and their Mycestian-oppresors.

Karoj-Menos, The Death of Archaenus & The Age of Anarchy:

Thesacles worked to build a resistance in and around the Mycestian Palace for the day when Karoj-Menos was overthrown.

Following the maiming of the progenitors, Thesacles stayed with his father and travelled around the Sector on The Psygorellius rallying their Archaenid brothers and sisters to their movement. Supplying rebel cells with COAG-powered weapons and ships, only to use them after hearing a broadcast signal from Iodium on his flagship: "The Reliquary."

Thesacles was involved in the initial invasion of Karoj-Menos and was there when his father was killed by Zeus and battled a powerful champion of the gods (identity forgotten by Thesacles).

The Hellecians won the day by capturing Karoj-Menos and disarming Mycestian forces with Thesacles' strategy. However, upon the accidental destruction of Karoj-Menos and the miscommunicated signal from Iodium. The Mycestians were slaughtered by the millions and their palaces were razed to the ground.

Thesacles would spend his time as the first cyclical commander of the Psygonauts and restore order one planet at a time by destroying raiding ships and overthrowing tyrants.

After decades of fighting (and his usually long lifespan due to his Ichorized blood), Thesacles and his commanders saw the futility in putting out these small fires. And resolved to establish a fortress city on the solidified remains of Dyloth (the former volcanic planet where COAG was discovered).

Acting as a strategic point along the DST Accelerator Lanes, Dyloth became a necessary trade hub and access point for vessels to enter the Accelerator Lane Network. And as a result, raiding parties grew smaller and settled down in the newly-restructured Sector.

That is until the invasion of the Perxis-Sadem.

Seeing as Dyloth was the most reconstructed planet in the sector (along with Lycurgius, Koth, Thessalis-Prime, Macestidonia, Thermetolia, Boetis, Eubolene, Cadmea, Epiretes & Thrice-La). Thesacles organized the Patrokonoi-Hellecia in the common defense of their home from "medimizing" to the Perxis-Sadem.

While many legacies were born during this invasion, Thesacles was given the name "King Thesacles of the Hellecians" as his leadership of the combined forces helped drive the Perxis-Sadem out of the sector (or into seclusion and/or slavery for those trapped inside the sector).

Sacrificing Dyloth & Thessalis-Prime to the Perxis-Sadem as a trap to eliminate their satripzei and disperse the hive in a panic.

Birth of the Collective & his Disappearance:

With the sector finally at peace and the leaders of the Patrokonoi-Hellecia bickering over who owns what. Thesacles did two things: split the universe into clusters and rolled out the Delot-Thesaclean Operating System or DTOS.

Clusters would be governed both the local assembly and the cluster's capital planet. In the event of orbital path straying or tyrannical overthrows, leadership of the planet will pass to the majority patrokonoi. While Archaenid (or Delot) installations will be regulated by the DTOS. Levying taxes for provided services as an emergency fund to be used in the event of another invasion.

After a spiting battle with the Lacdrians over border disputes, Thesacles rebuilt and revived Thessalis-Prime to reinvigorate the economy of the sector.

He ruled as king for centuries from the Kingdom of Neo-Dyloth (its location kept secret).

As he continued to age and witness heartbreak as he witnessed grandchildren of grandchildren grow up and die before him.   Seeing as his successors would never live long enough to take his place, King Thesacles adopted a democracy to give power to those who had no power under the Mycestians and the Pantheon.

He became the first archon of Neo-Dyloth to provide a smooth transition for the next government. However, his citizens continued to call him "King" and continued to elect him.

Looking for a way out of a government that wouldn't let him go and to end his eternity of suffering, King Thesacles went out on dangerous mission after dangerous mission in order to find himself an honorable death as a warrior. Yet nothing worked.

Until the Oracle at Delphistes told him a prophecy of a being on the other side of the universe who will bring him an honorable death.

Eager to find this person, Thesacles tries to leave Neo-Dyloth. However, all of his attempts are met with resistance from the assembly and his family. Going as far as sending his resignation, the assembly rejected his resignation. Demanding he stay and defend them against the encroaching Lacdrians.

At wits end, King Thesacles commits political suicide by sending a very public letter affirming his allegiance to the Grand Abcipitor of the Perxis-Sadem.

Furious, the public chases their beloved king out of the cluster. Never to be seen again...thanks to the participation of the oligarchic nobility and his enemies in the assembly.

Aboard the Psygorellius:

Several hundred years later, all of this backstory will be relayed to the Psygonauts. After AJM-001 & Ulysses "Ollie" Dylos find King Thesacles strapped to a golden throne as a hideous creature feeds on his Ichor.

Saving him from this fate, an ancient Thesacles wakes up as he warmly greet AJ as his second-in-command from their days in the "Razorbacks."

Confused, Thesacles informs AJ of the broken past he can recall. However, the pieces are too jumbled for the aged king to recall. In return, Dylos informs the king of the Collective and how his creation has nearly taken over the entire universe. And in order to stop them, he needs to tell the Psygonauts the location of Neo-Dyloth.

In exchange for this information, King Thesacles joins their team if they will help the old monarch find an honorable death aboard his old ship.

Thesacles assists AJ as a competent but out-of-date commander with a death wish, similar to AJ in almost every way (including his impulsiveness; which he takes to a whole new level).

While no one would believe that this old man is the legendary King Thesacles. The old monarch will see firsthand how his unceremonious departure from Neo-Dyloth led to the impoverishment of the Archaenids (now called Cis-Enders), the perversion of his Collective & the ascension of this evil empire over the Hellecians he swore to protect all those years ago.

Sadly, Thesacles will find his peace in the same dishonorable fashion his father Archaenus died.
