Mehena, Magi of Lelum, the 2nd

Mehen Kulsavas (a.k.a. The Dragon of Magic)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The 2nd child of the Golden Dragon and Bronze Queen, Mehena, was a very talented child as he grew. Whatever he put his mind to, he would quickly become proficient in, from languages to instruments, learning with the help of his older brother. Despite these talents, he never felt like he fit in with other people, being much smaller than the average draken even when he was younger. Thus, he would end up spending a lot of time by himself rather than playing with other youth, preferring the activity of reading books and learning new things rather than socializing. It would end up damaging his self esteem as he grew, as he found it difficult spending time with others besides his own family.   That would all change when she met one person, Sarvari, the greatest mage of the empire. It first began with simple watching from a distance, with Mehena spectating her as she worked in her laboratory or within the library, with curious eyes studying what she did. As time went on, he got closer and closer, until finally he began to talk with her. What came next few people really know, but what was obvious was that since that moment, Sarvari became a mentor for the young son of the Golden Dragon.   He happily accepted being a pupil under her. While he continued his normal studies, he would take every oppurtunity he could to observe what Sarvari did and did all he could to help, and in return Sarvari would teach him as much as she could. Under her tutelage, he would deepen his knowledge on the topic of magic, and begin his journey to manipulating the flow of magic. He would even begin taking part in her experiments, using his flow of magic to support her trials and empower her attempts to create new magic.   He would learn much from her, becoming incredible in his ability to manipulate his flow, much like his mentor. Time would soon turn to that he would work with his mentor as an equal, such was his growth. It was during all this that his father gave him responsibility over a province, much like his siblings, and he would be tasked with a very tumultuous place to handle, Lelum, the most recently conquered land of the empire and where many chromatic draken had moved into to return to their old homes in the safety of the empire.   Many assumed that he would purge and send away these refugees, for the feelings of hatred towards chromatic draken still felt strong among the empire, at least with the metallics. He did not do any such thing, he rather chose to treat them like any citizen, like any normal draken, ensuring their protection and helping many find homes and jobs. If Kaladan, his father, was angered or saddened is unknown but he did not intervene in the province. While many still felt animosity to them, Lelum became a place where chromatics would be able to live without lawful persecution.   On top of this, Mehena would focus greatly on expanding the influence of the magi, investing into educating people within the province to manipulate the flow, and selecting the most promising and hard working people to become pupils under magi or even himself, with Sarvari sometimes visiting to aid in this effort until her death in -38. As such, Lelum became a hub of knowledge both physical and mental, as many philosophers would spring up from its lands, and many great magi grew there. Mehena would become a true patron of magic, as even the average mortal would be able to study and learn how to control the flow of magic.   This would all come to a saddening end, as Mehena would need to quickly return to his home across the water, back to Gatherlak to his dying father. He quickly saw how his brothers and sisters began planning for when their father died, and he felt disgusted by it, his own family were planning everything for after their own father died, and gave no care for him. As such, Mehena focused all of his time on helping his father, searching remedies to aid with the pain and with staying away death from taking him.   Mehena failed sadly, and quickly returned back to Lelum, for he knew what was to come next. The War of the Wyverns. As much as he tried to stay neutral and not involve himself with the war, he would end up being forced into it by the aggression of his neighbors, rousing his people into powerful armies that could work together to manipulate the flow and destroy their enemies with it, they became a fearsome force on the continent, the most famous unit being that of the Red Fangs.   The war's end proved to be disastrous for Lelum, as it did not have enough farms and did not create enough food to feed its population, so people starved and famine reached far and wide. If it was not for the discovery of magic that could empower the soil, the state would have been lost to revolution and civil war. The entire state now relies on the flow of magic to aid its survival, from the aiding of food creation to the creation of magical artifacts.   The state continues to research with all its ability into magic and how it can be used, as business within it has run dry and little money enters it, the little there is coming from its rare magical artifacts that are produced at the biggest scale in the world. Now with the discovery of the Golden Frontier, Mehena must quickly expand his influence into it, so commerce and wealth may reach his state, and his people may once more feel prosperous and become a jewel on the continent.

Education

Mehena's education in magic is first class, having been educated from the subject's greatest innovator, and as such is one of the most important minds in the subject, having created many of his own spells that he has taught to others. His knowledge in other subjects is by no means lackluster, with his most unique knowledge being that of the chromatic draken, something which few people truly know, and which he is always willing to tell other people about the chromatic's unique culture and history.

Mental Trauma

Despite his growth into an adult, Mehena still suffers a lot from his isolation as a child, his self esteem still haunting him to this day. He finds himself very anxious over things, some people even calling him sensitive. Along with this, he prefers to spend most of his time with close friends or advisors, and is rarely seen outside of the capitals palace, making him a nearly mythical like being for some people in Lelum, with some spreading rumors that they sometimes see their hidden king amongst the normal people.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

Mehena spends most of his time doing what he loves, exploring and experimenting on the flow of magic, trying to unlock its secrets and understanding it more, trying to continue his mentor's work despite her death. One of the more surprising interests of his is the fact that he enjoys Caligraphy, even before the empire split into pieces, made a major effort to map out all corners of the continent, from the smallest village to the biggest mountains.   Mehena is a very open person, and as such theree are very few things he actually specifically dislikes. One thing he does very much dislike is being passive, and simply lazing around. He has a personal philosophy of that any time you have left over is time you should be using to learning a skill or other such study. As such, he also speaks the most languages out of any of his siblings, from the language of stonemen to the talvarian language.
