Drakens

Basic Information

Anatomy

Draken are humanoid shaped dragon like people. They have thick necks with a head reminiscent of a dragon on top. They average about 190 cm tall and 107 kg heavy, meaning they have a very thick muscular and skeletal structure, leading them to be a bit wider than most races as well. They have four limbs in total, two arms and two legs, with their hands having four fingers and their feet have four toes. There are two sets of colors, one being metallic and one being chromatic.   On top of this, the species hiss as their way to show off anger, and show sadness by the skin on their face turning brighter.

Biological Traits

Draken used to have to dig themselves underground during the winter, due to their cold blood, and along with this have to get warm in the mornings. They previously had to get into sunlight to reinvigorate their bodies, but now have a tradition across the entire species called Morning Blaze, which is just a fire made in the morning, to heat them up.

Genetics and Reproduction

The male inserts their penor into the female, impregnating her, where the female then lays the fertilized egg soon after, which hatches after 6 months. Because of the fact that there isn't inter-species competition when it comes to draken, it means that male and female are biologically very similar in size and strength, with the exception of the female having wider hips than the male.

Growth Rate & Stages

Begins as a very lizard like form, unable to walk on two legs, later developing to be able to do so in infancy, where it then reaches a young adult stage reaches its peak of physical development, until it finishes maturing at about 16 years of age. During the egg stage, its common for the male or female to carry the egg around in some form of pouch to ensure it stays warm.

Ecology and Habitats

Previously, their native habitat was temperate and deciduous forests, or open plains, with some tribes even living in the savannahs, but nowadays both species can be found in multiple places.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Drakens are omnivorous creatures and requires both plants and meat, in the past foraging for berry like plants and herbs, along with hunting animals. Due to having serrated teeth, they are easily able to pierce flesh and consume it, meaning its quite easy for them to consume meat.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The species in the wild, so to speak, usually follow a large family like structure of about 30 individuals, majority being couples, with one couple being the leaders. As people mature, its quite common to choose to go on a journey to a new clan, or even a clan that your original clan has an established relationship with. Due to their long lives, veneration of older people were quite common, with the oldest couple usually being chosen as the leader, but very rarely a younger single individual becomes a leader due to extreme circumstances. The social structure of draken is very moral as well, due to the their psychology to be extremely stubborn.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Before the empire, the drakens were primarily found in either the northern or southern deciduous forests, where the species found their ideal home to be. The metallic draken ended up living in the north close by the halflings and goliaths, while the chromatic ended up living in the south and were neighbored by the urkar and firbolgs.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have two eyes, a lizard like nose, and a pair of holes on the sides of their heads for hearing.
