Metal Dragon Species in The Fantasy Nexus | World Anvil

Metal Dragon

Metal dragons are a species of dragon, and one of the seventeen main dragon types.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Metal dragons have the same basic anatomy as any dragon. They have two horns that jut out at a slight angle behind their head. Their scales, unlike most dragons' snakelike scales which fit together, overlap more like a fish's. Their scales consist of small plates of metal. What this metal is depends on the breed of metal dragon. Metal dragons have claws like any other dragon. They have short curved spines from their neck to their tail.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragons reproduce sexually, and give birth via eggs. However, dragon eggs are extremely durable, to the point of being invincible.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dragons mature very quickly at the start of their life, both physically and mentally. As time passes, this growth slows to a normal rate, and stays that way for the rest of their lives. During the first six years or so, dragons will grow at an incredible rate.

Ecology and Habitats

Metal dragons tend to live deep underground. Before the war, some metal dragons lived with dwarves in their underground cities.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Metal dragons eat whatever metal they can find. Precious metals like platinum, gold, and silver are considered delicacies.

Behaviour

Metal dragons are proud, much like fire dragons. They take pride in themselves and other metal dragons around them. Metal dragons are mostly good, and while their sense of duty isn't quite on the level of light dragons, they will never hesitate to help someone who is struggling or in need. Metal dragons enjoy the company of rock and stardust dragons.
