Lurr Settlement in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Lurr

The city of Lurr was lost to the desert a millennia ago. Known as the city of bejeweled temples, or the city of great roads. While there are historical documents from the time, much is unknown about the city. It was populated by many people and sustained by deep fountains of water.

Rise

The city was founded around the estate of Lurrinoriaz the Magnificent, a dragon of tan hide and heterocromatic eyes in green and purple. It was converted from a simple estate to a city around 3792 IR, with the dragon as its ruler. It was supplied with goods from across the realms and had one of the hubs of an early extraplanar portal network.

Greatness

The use of the extraplanar network and its celestial observatory and communication network were unparalleled in Gorel during its peek. The great desert provided areas of sunning for the great wyrms and the access to portals allowing for good fun hunting, made it a tourist destination for dragonkin and dragons alike. Using its resources it also began to produce the first mass produced golem attendants. Its healing baths, medicinal springs and cosmetic surgeons were renowned.

Fall

The violent death of Lurriminentie Turiboliaxin, grandson of Lurrinoriaz is credited for its fall. While this was likely the final trigger, economics played a significant role. The establishment of the hub-less Portal Networks reduced reliance on Lurr's network. The desire for more robust golems not made of sand or sandstone lessened that economic hold as well as rampant drug use and trade.

Legacy

The trove of Lurriminentie is still rumored to be unplundered, the medicinal baths still having potency and the actual events of its rapid demise unknown. While supposedly discovered by Blass Overa Booth, it is being actively sought after by Ansas the Dark and his organization The Grasping Vine.
