Season 6, Episode 8: "Flay the Spire" Report

General Summary

Emboldened by her training with Chess, Flay gathered the people of the Ikal Expanse at the base of the Black Formian spire, and prepared to finish a war. While the remnants of the three tribes headed for the inner wall, Flay and her infiltration party -- Warmth in the Clouds, Dances with Leaves, Life of Whispers, Roar in the River, and Chess -- looked to the sky. Imbued with Chess' power, Flay disappeared, cleaving the top of the tower away, and sending the pieces tumbling into the Formians below. Then Chess Skipped the rest to the top of the spire, where the creatures within were stirring.   The found all twelve of the Daemon generals, standing ready to protect the Formian queen -- a great insect with scythe-like talons strong enough to cut through steel. As the battle began below, so to did the one in the skies, with Flay diving right into the action, surrounding herself with Formian blades. She put her new equipment to use, cleaving and sparking across the ranks, while the rest of her crew caught up and supported with spells and grenades. However, good armor and divine constitution could only take Flay so far, and she soon found herself on one knee, her blood saturating the ground.   That was the moment River chose to strike.   Flay saw it before it happened -- a warning from the Haze, showing Jestyr whispering in River's ear, masquerading as the spirit of Unari Dama -- but was too late to stop the blast. The fire brought Flay to the Doors of Death, surrounded on all sides by vicious monsters, and River used the confusion to escape, teleporting away with a pre-planned exit.   Thankfully Flay was not alone, with Whispers and Clouds sliding in to provide healing, just in time for Chess to start delivering heavy hits to the queen. Still, the crew was outnumbered when they arrived, and the loss of an ally shook them, leaving them all wondering which way the battle would turn.   Then a blast of a chain cannon shook the stones, the Aga Jain pulling up over the horizon, and carving a hole into the Formian forces. Dances and Whispers took that opportunity to strike, hitting the insect in a moment of weakness, and at last brought her low. The telepathic blowback was devastating to the Formians, leaving them reeling on their feet, and an easy target for the hardened warriors of the Ikal Expanse.   War horns signalled victory. The war was over.   In the aftermath, the interim crew of the Aga Jain passed out meals for the survivors, and gave medical care to those they could save. Flay agreed to rendevous with the rest of her team on Ezorod the next day, but stayed with her people to ensure everything was stable beforehand. TRAVIS quietly left the Tempest behind for her to travel with, which Flay used to visit Caliria Maze before departuring.   She found it devoid of the Khizar, most of its luster gone. The seal Unari created had gone dormant, the spring in his cavern gone dry. In his bedroom, there was only a wall covered in millions of claw marks, carving out the visceral shape of a butterfly. Slightly disturbed, but at peace with her actions on Castrovel, Flay loaded up her ship and left, setting her destination to Ezorod...

Notes

There's tanky, and then there's "can I dive into a crowd of 13 monsters?" tanky. Flay may have learned that she is in the former category, but only time will tell.   Don't try to fix your spark plugs on D&D days.   This is also our last game of the year! Season 6 will conclude in January 2022.
