The Sandstorm Clan

The Sandstorm Clan was formed by Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm when they rebelled against Chieftain Tok Nightstar of The Nightstar Clan. Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm gathered his followers and they left Nightstar territory in the middle of the night. They were able to slip through Blackfoot territory unnoticed, choosing to only travel at night and to make quick shelters under ground when the sun began to rise. Going through The Bronzefoot Clan was going to be the hard part. The Bronzefoot Clan was known as attacking anyone who wasn't a Bronzefoot or a Blackfoot on sight. Luckily, they were busy relentlessly raiding The Bitter Dagger Clan, meaning most of their attention was focused to the north.

Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm led his people through the southern section of Bronzefoot territory. They kept the same travel practices, only at night and sleep underground during the day. They were able to skirt between the Thaltz River and Cinderwick. With help from the spies that sided with them, they were able to go unnoticed through the Bronzefoot clan.

Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm traveled northward until he stopped seeing Bronzefoot banners. He established the town of Eetzu on the Thaltz River. Eetzu is purely an underground village. To this day, there is not a single structure built above ground. Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm settled his people in a large underground tavern and then sent teams to explore westward to look for new places to possibly settle. His teams traveled north from Eetzu and then started to explore west. They wanted to ensure that they would not step across the border line with the Bronzefoots. They eventually reached the coast line and founded the village of Grel in year -29BU.

Grel was completely built above ground. Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm figured it was far enough away from everything that there would not be any harm in being above ground. Grel would become the sight of the most technological advancements in all of Nilrodhi. Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm established the village of Eezzulk in year -24BU to serve as a half way point between Eetzu and Eezzulk.

After Chieftain Gutt Sandstorm resigned, Chieftain Vosk Sandstorm took over as Chieftain. Chieftain Vosk Sandstorm sent a team to explore to the east and eventually established Gipzok. He then relocated the capital to Gipzok believing that Eetzu was too close to The Bronzefoot Clan territory.

The Sandstorm clan is the youngest clan in Nilrodhi, but they made some amazing discoveries. Grel, unknown to the Sandstorm Clan, sat just across the water to another landmass that was unknown to them. They are still unaware of it's existence. Because of this, Grel was home to numerous ship wrecks from the other inhabitants of this world. They discovered these large metal cylinders attached to wheels, with large iron balls that seemed to fit inside of them. There were also these little packs of this very grainy black sand type of material with them. They were extremely heavy, but they managed to to get one of these metal cylinders and some of the iron balls back to Grel as well as cases of this black sand. They all gathered around trying to figure out what they were.

Some believed they were some sort of torture device. They argued that you would take a captives hand, or foot, and put it the back of the cylinder. Then you would close the hatch on the back tight. As the victim was yelling, the torturer would then lift up one of the balls and let it roll to the back of cylinder to crush the victims body part. Then, if they still didn't answer, the torturer would take this black sand and blow it in their eyes, making them blind! There was much discussion about this theory, one of the Kobolds grabbed a handful of the black sand and blew it into another's eyes to see what happened. The Kobold instantly began jumping around and then fell to the ground rolling around holding his eyes. The others looked on in shock as he screamed. They quickly held him down and began to dump water on his face and in his eyes to try to flush out the sand. Eventually the Kobold calmed down and his eyes were completely red and irritated. This pretty much settled the argument about what this stuff was.

They settled down and began to put out the campfire. They began to kick sand onto the fire to put it out and one Kobold grabbed a bag of the black sand and dumped the whole bag onto the fire. The campfire immediately erupted in a huge ball of fire. They all jumped back in shock. Once the flames died down, another Kobold dumped another bag onto the fire and the same thing happened. This started the entire debate over again.

After a few days, one of the Kobolds got the idea to tightly pack the black sand and place it into the cylinder. He then put one of the iron balls inside of it and held a torch to the small cord sticking out the back. With a loud bang, the cylinder seemed to explode. It flew backwards, sending the kobold who lit it flying back and tumbling across the ground. When he looked up, he noticed that one of the buildings in Grel was destroyed. There was a large hole followed by splintered wood and a cloud of smoke. He then realized what this was used for. He had discovered the cannon. He quickly had a messenger sent to Chieftain Vosk Sandstorm for him to come look for himself.

Chieftain Vosk Sandstorm arrived in Grel to see what had been discovered. They fired of the cannon and Vosk was in awe of it's power. With this, they wouldn't have to worry about potential raids when they were discovered. The problem was, it was too heavy. It took a team of Kobolds just to move this device. He had some of the smartest Kobolds in his clans study the black sand. They found that it was made of charcoal, saltpeter, and sulfur. He immediately sent teams to gather as much of these materials as they could. He met with blacksmiths and tinkerers and asked them if they could make something like this but easier to move around. They sat and began to play around with different ideas. They finally decided to attempt to make one that could be carried in one hand. They spent a couple of years trying to create this item. They finally produced a prototype, it looked just like the original cylinder but could be carried by a single kobold. It is large and clunky requiring both hands to hold, but it worked. They called this invention the Iron Thunder because it was made from iron and produced a ferocious thundering boom when lit.

Chieftain Vosk Sandstorm was pleased with this and began to have them produced as The Sandstorm Clan weapon of choice. He also had teams monitor the coastlines to watch for any other shipwrecks to take materials and see what else were on them. They knew there were others in this world, occasionally spotting a few humans. They managed to chase them off of Nilrodhi by firing their Iron Thunder weapons at them.
