Archipelago of Bennoria

The Five Jewels of Valroth

Bennoria an Archipelago on the World of Valroth. It is composed of five large islands: Shiris, Niras, Inai, Winterscot, and Maezes. It has been over two Ages since these islands were settled by an assortment of Humanoid Races. So long has it been that even the long lived races have little more than myths of the times before coming to the islands. To most of the modern inhabitants nothing exists beyond the five islands of Bennoria.

Geography

A grouping of five large islands, each island has it's own topography ranging in rich grasslands, vast forests, Mountain chains, freezing islands and a magical wasteland.

Shiris

Shiris is the central island of the Archipelago, though not the largest. It covers approximately 350,000 square miles, most of which is perfect for farming. It has two large mountain ranges, three major rivers, and a forested peninsula where the last major Elven Kingdom exists. The island's central location also gives it advantage by being on almost every major trade route. The two largest trade ports in the entire archipelago are on Shiris: Highguard on the Sunrise Strait and Dragonpoint, the first and last port for those attempting the Dragon Crossing.

Niras

The 300,000 square mile island north of Shiris, known for it's vast forests, large central lake, and mountainous coastlines. Lumber and metal goods are the primary exports of the island. The northernmost snowcapped mountains are home to Mim Maldur, the largest Dwarven Stronghold known for it's wealth in Mithril and gold.

Inai

The south east island of Inai is the second largest of all the islands. It is renown for it's vast grasslands where nomadic tribes tend to large herds of cattle, horses and other livestock. It is also home to the XX Mountains, the tallest peaks in the entire archipelago. North of the mountain range is a vast swampy jungle infamous for it's poisonous plants and animals.

Winterscot

This north western island as been engulfed in preputial ice and snow for over three thousand years. An incident that happened during the Age of Warring laid a curse that no one has since been able to lift, not even the @Sacred. Along the southern coastlines people have been able to survive in small fishing villages. Off the south western edge of the main island is the Verdantisle, a place still cold but able to support small efforts of farming and livestock. There is one rocky mountain range where a few enterprising dwarven explorers have established mines. The fearless anglers of Winterscot have mastered the dangerous waters of the Frosty Currents and the Sunset Ocean, learning how to hunt whale and other large sea creatures that most sailors avoid at all costs. They are able to export the products of these hunts to the other islands, often for food stocks that are difficult if not impossible to grow in Winterscot's harsh climate.

Maezes

By far the largest island, Maezes was once the lush homeland for many of the elves in Bennoria. Now it is little more than a magical wasteland called The Fells where only the bravest have ever dared to explore and only the luckiest have returned from.  The epicenter for the cataclysmic Fall was the old capital of Eminor, now the center of a crater bay almost 300 miles in diameter. The ravaged crag lands are home to scores of monstrous creatures found no where else in Bennoria. Fifty years after The Fall a lone settlement was found sheltered by the mountains of the far south eastern edge. The survivors there have been slowly twisted by the wild magics until all trace of their original ancestry is gone and they are now simply the Fellfolk.

Lovely article with great detail that brings the world to life. The pictures along with the overall imagery of the article evoke a sense of what the world feels like and the style of the map echoes that really well. I also like how you've included sites of interest on the map - that immediately draws me to places to visit and adventure in an imagine stories that may be told :)

Thank you so much! I've been trying to find the words to convey the world that's beginning to take shape in my head but I'm so out of practice it's been quite a struggle. Once I get things a bit further along I'll be adding in TTRPG plot/adventures.
