WorldEmber 2024 - Prep

Publishing in Dendralis returns this WoldEmber! Following Summer Camp, it was time to take a break for pushing out new works on the World of Terramora, for three reasons primarily.   For one, there was a bit of burnout. A pledge for 8 articles was made, but 24 ended up being completed! That increase brings up reason two for the break.   More plotting was required. Though the intention in this project is to build for depth over width, only a fraction of the contienet of Dendralis was even plotted out at the beginning of Summer Camp. Following over 40+ articles being created from the event (24 submissions plus nearly as many accompanying stubs), it became clear that the remainder of the continent required at least a loose plotting in order to help maintain cohesion as future work is produced. Shoutout to Alan Byers for providing plenty of support on this foundational level.   And lastly, 24 articles in a month takes time, and many projects away from Terramora were requiring attention after a month of neglect. But now with a break allowing for some rest and brainstorming, World Ember brings a return to Dendralis, and with it, a journey into a new region of the continent.

Week 1: Pledge Your Goal

Assignment 1: Set a word goal and your area of focus.
The goal is to focus on putting in 10,000 words for WorldEmber. The there is enough foundation material to easily chase 50,000, it is important to not sacrifice too much time from other ventures. As such, 10,000 words will be the target, with the understanding that the target could easily move to 25,000 should time permit.

Assignment 2: Choose your area of focus.
Further development of Dendralis has revealed that the continent will likely end up with about 17-23 primary geographic regions. Of these regions, four are currently far along enough in development that any combination of these regions may be revealed during World Ember.
Assignment 3: Create or update your meta.
Keeping it short and sweet, the meta was last updated for Summer Camp, and it's not time to update the meta of this world quite yet, especially as it is not publicly shared at this time.   Update - Nov 15, 2024 Joke's on me. The meta has been updated AND published. Though only mostly complete, this gives a pretty good idea of the world with only come clarifying details to really add. Check out the new meta!

Week 2: Prepare Your World for New Readers

Assignment 1: Review your homepage.
The homepage of Terramora admittedly needs some work. The use of CSS will be big for this process, so a homepage updated to the stylization I wish for is a ways away. However, an update is in the works as is a primer....
Assignment 2: Create or review your world primer.
There are plans for two different primers into Dendralis. Time permitting, one of them will be comoleted prior to World Ember starting off. Expect to see an official guide to Dendralis along with a special pamphlet for those who seek to truly know what is going on in the Land of Trees.   Update - Nov 11, 2024 Screw it. This is a very rare occurrence, but the ugly first drafts of the two primers have been published, and are seeking any kind of comments - be it critiques, questions that are unanswered, questions about what is shared, anything else. Take a glance and leave a note about the Wanderer's Guide to Dendralis or the pamphlet, On Truth and Travel (one or both to be renamed in their final form.   Update - Nov 20, 2024 The Wanderer's Guide to Dendralis is complete! New updates will come out occassionally over time, though the bulk of this information will continue to reign true.   Update - Nov 21, 2024 Primers are fully released now with the completion of On Truth and Travel.
Assignment 3: Set up your community tools.
At this time, Terramora doesn't have a major need for any sort of update with community tools. The link to follow the world has been active since the inception of Terramora, while content is not currently released at a consistent enough rate for additional tools to be of use at this time.
Assignment 4: CSS wizardry.
Ha! But mere peasantry am I in the world of CSS. There are bigger fish to fry at this moment in Terramora at this time. This is a target for the world prior to Summer Camp 2025.

Week 3: On the Hunt for Inspiration!

Assignment 1:Read a book or watch a movie!
Just got done watching Rings of Power's second season most recently, so it will be easy to tap into that inspiration. Will be on the lookout for more inspiration over the next two weeks.
Assignment 2:Create a moodboard.
In the month and a half following Summer Camp, Pinterest boards were created for each of the as-yet undescribed regions of Dendralis. These boards will serve as the main source of inspiration for the works of WorldEmber.
Assignment 3: Create or expand your writing playlist.
With over 150 playlists on spotify and counting, whatever music fits the mood of the day is at my fingertips.

Week 4: Harness the Power of Friendship!

Assignment 1: Find a community.
The competition community on the WorldAnvil Discord is a wonderful collection of inspiring and supportive writers and worldbuilders. Truly a phenomenal community during an event like WorldEmber.
Assignment 2: Plan your writing schedule.
Writing for Terramora is typically a late night activity, beginning after around 8/8:30pm for about two hours or so, so it will remain a nightly activity throughout WorldEmber. Wednesday mornings will also be common writing period.
Assignment 3: Get some fresh air!
Fresh air is a must, and coming with various photography walks as part of a course that is being taken at the moment. That will remain consistent until the class is completed in a few weeks.   As for this week's accomplishments, two primers for Dendralis have been completed, giving readers a detailed introduction into the world of Terramora. There is also a big effort to work on a worldbuilding bible via google sheets.   Preparation is tight for an expansive WorldEmber! Best of luck to all participants!
World Ember Word Goal:
