The Frostern Civil-War

Written for Prompt 16 (2019 Summer Camp)

Written by David_Ulph

The Conflict

Outcome

The Imperial Kingdom of Frostern was disassembled, with Earl and then Wolf-King Drake Wolfspack becoming appointed as the High King of All Korgs, and the leader of a newly independent Kingdom of Skìrah. As per the blood pact between the Houses, the Earldom of Roghavern was granted independence to the Empire-Slayer himself, Eagleguard Valdar Frost, and the Earldom of the Frost was divided evenly between the two Kingdoms.

Aftermath

By the Fourth Age, the Skìrah Earldom of Valhol successfully pleaded for their own independence as Midden Korgs rather than Frosian Korgs. The Earldom of Lionmidden, a land still within the Kingdom of Mylrond despite being culturally Midden Korgs rather than Bludalfar, sought to join in arms with Valhol and their Kingdom of Midden. After years of fighting with the radical Bludalfar Conclave of Inquisitors, Lionmidden finally became a part of Midden.

As the High King of All Korgs, Drake Wolfspack's title became more symbolic than anything else, and so the Kingdom of Skìrah was reformed as the Kingdom of Skyral.

Historical Significance

Legacy

One rivalry ended up being replaced by another. With the Wintersbloods all but taken out both in bloodline and politically, the Wolfspacks' new Kingdom of Skyral ended up in a short conflict with the newly established Kingdom of the Frost over border disputes and revenge against the remaining Wintersbloods confined in Talvel's Point. Such events and disputes never occurred between Skyral and the Kingdom of Midden in Valhol and Lionmidden who had seceded from the very Kingdom.

Some Scholars believe that the fall of Frostern was the first step in the true crumbling of the Great Western Empire, making the eastern realms extremely vulnerable to the Second Dragon Crusade and subsequent time known as the Age of Northern Fire. This is where sea-raiders from Ragnarokr plagued the shores of Dagorland, and Narradu barbarians break through the old Imperial defences in the Untamed Lands into Mylrondia.
