Valdar FitzRagnar

Sir Valdar the Bastard

Written by David_Ulph

Sir Valdar Frost (a.k.a. Valdar the Bastard, Empire-Slayer, Valdar Ragnarsson, Valdar FitzRagnar)

Ah-ha yes, the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of one woman. It is known that the fall of the Great Western Empire will be caused by a triangle but I can tell you this for free; it is a triangle of love over Alanya between Armand (the first love), Doughtaticus (the married love), and Valdar(the true love).

Physical Description

Specialized Equipment

As a Knight of the Eagleguard, Valdar is armoured in specially tailored Black-Adamantine Full-Plate Eagleguard Armour.   Valdar is armed with his personal Adamantine Sword and Spear. As per Eagleguard tradition, his fellow Knights have named his sword as Blaglann which coincides with his nickname of "the Bastard". Blaglann in an ironically bastardized version of Valdar's natural Old Speech tongue loosely translates into "Bastard Blade".

Personal history

Early Life

Valdar was initially born as Valdar Frost, the third son of the powerful Earl Ragnar Frost of Roghavern Hold in Skìrah. As a healthy young boy, Valdar was most likely to become a warrior or knight in the service of his father and become heir in case his two older brothers died in this time of uncertainty. However, Ragnar's rivals in court, always hunting for secrets to take over the House Frost, discovered the truth about Valdar's lineage and the fact he is actually a bastard child, born from an affair between Ragnar and the High Priestess Mararug. Knowing that having a bastard as a possible heir would tarnish his reputation in Frosian Korg society and lead to the further downfall of his House, Ragnar rode Valdar East to the Capitol of the Great Western Empire. Cashing in on a favour his good friend, Emperor Julius Dragorlan, owed him, Valdar was to be brought up as a ward in his care. Since his family had disowned him, Valdar was from then on referred to as Valdar Ragnarsson as per bastard naming traditions.

As the Emperor's Ward

Through most of his life, Valdar was treated as the son Julius always wanted but never had. Similarly, Valdar become something like a brotherly figure to the Emperor's three daughters and close friends to his only son, Doughtaticus. Through his adolescence, Valdar matured into the close friend-group between himself, Doughtaticus, Armand de Montague which would define all three of their lives in the future. Just like his two other closest friend, Valdar was extremely friendly with Alanya Seeciro when her father the Archduke of the Faar Isle visited.   While Doughtaticus embarrassed his father with his egotistical lifestyle, the Emperor brought Valdar to the front-lines of the Imperial Legions as his real father's belief that Valdar would one day become a successful Knight of the Realm was turning out to be accurate. Valdar had seemingly inherited all of the greatest aspects of the Frost bloodline. Valdar was brutally strong and skilfully agile, he was a fighter. But he was also a great speaker and a diplomat, he was an inspirational leader. So Julius wanted to tap into this potential as it would go to waste if Valdar would live his life out as Ragnarsson, the Bastard-Lord. And so, Valdar was trained by Julius' top commanders and legionnaires, groomed to become the next member of the Eagleguard when the time inevitably came.   When Julius later brought Doughtaticus to the front-lines to do his own personal grooming on his son to make him a better fit for an Emperor, Julius fell ill suddenly. While Julius was ill, Valdar guarded his Emperor's tent alongside the Eagleguard with such zeal he impressed even the Knight-Captain. During this time, a free member of the Eagleguard was still to take Doughtaticus right behind the fortification on the Dankatch River, the Great Western Empire's frontier for duelling practice. One day, the Barbarian Hordes took advantage of Julius' illness and sent a mass force on the Dankatch fort-line. While on practice, Berzerkers broke through the walls and butchered the finest warriors of the present Legions, including the Eagleguard training Doughtaticus.   So some months later after Julius recovered as much as he could, the Emperor, the Heir, and Valdar all travelled back South to the Capitol. Back there, the tourney of Eagleguard recruitment needed to commence to fill the open space in the bodyguard formation. Pushed on by his foster family the Imperial House Dragorlan, Valdar rightfully won the tourney and officially became a Knight of the Eagleguard and renamed Sir Valdar FitzRagnar.
