Dago'Medui

Albrin's Last Stand

I don't travel often, that is my greatest personal failure. I often say that's because of my duty as a scribe keeps me occupied, but that is only an excuse. The roads are a dangerous place - too dangerous for me. Also, one of the few times I traveled is still stuck in my mind.   I was headed from Bahrin's Rest towards the forests of the Wildflower Elves on the southern route. As the sun started dipping below the horizon, my traveling party and I had set up camp beside the road. It was a dark and quiet night, so sleep came easily. But in the middle of the night, I suddenly jolted awake. I could hear the distant sound of battle cries and swords hitting metal. I first thought of bandits, but then I noticed a smell of rotten flesh and decay. The air tasted of blood. This was something else!   My heart was pounding loudly as I crept out of my tent to investigate. I was trembling. As my gaze swept across the horizon, a shiver went down my spine. To our north, ghostly lights were dancing in the dark, some devoid of shape, others looked vaguely like wounded elves or dying dwarfs. It was only then that I realized where we were: Just north of us was Dago'Medui, where the fallen of the Hundred Years' War continuously fight their eternal battle every night.   I couldn't close my eyes for the rest of the night. I sat close to the fire and prayed to The Everlasting that she may have mercy with those poor souls. As the rest of my traveling party awoke one after the other to the same experience, they joined me. As morning dawned, it all went away, as if there was nothing and always had been nothing. We packed our stuff and diverted our route further to the south, to get away from here as fast as possible.

History

Dago'Medui is the battlefield of the last battle of the Hundred Years' War, where the elven armies finally defeated the armies of the corrupted dwarven king Albrin Darksteel. It is said, that so many died that day that most of their souls remained, wandering in the nights, haunting the land and fighting their last battle over and over again. Others say Albrins corruption is what keeps them from finding their peace.   The name is dwarven and roughly translates to "the last stand".

Geography

Dago'Medui is in the midst of wide and flat grasslands, about halfway between Rararí river and the forest of the Wildflower Elves, and about a week north of Heleg'Fotar, the dwarven mountain homes.

Fauna & Flora

Most animals avoid this area because they can sense the ghostly presence even when it is invisible at day. Though, a surprising amount of vultures come here to breed.   Because the land is also avoided by most travelers, the flora is mostly undisturbed and wild. The grass grows higher than elsewhere and in between blossom many rare flowers.
