Farmingham
Far to the north in The City of the Lights, there is a small, unassuming metropolis called Farmingham. It is quaint, pastoral and wooded, sitting gracefully upon the edge of Farmgärd Loch. Frozen for a full three months every year, the loch is cold and deep, and full of fish. It supports an entire ecosystem that ebbs and flows in perfect rhythm with the seasons of the taigha forest.
The Roads to and from the little city are uncommonly busy. The city not only imports everything it eats, but every ingredient needed to cook the meals. It imports the lions share of the alcohol it drinks, as well, and most of the other little luxuries usually made locally are, too. Bakeries thrive, and restaurants, as most people do not cook their own meals. Smiths and craftsmen make a fine living repairing fixtures and fitting horseshoes, but the bulk of metallurgical fabrication is done elsewhere. The entire settlement is a merchant's dream, because the entire settlement needs to purchase what it needs to survive from a third party.
Every person living and working in Farmingham works for The City of the Lights Administrative Department. Indeed, the entire city is the administrative department of the City of the Lights, and one of the best kept secrets of the government.
Demographics
The population of farmingham is entirely human, except for Kels himself, who is an elf.
Government
This city is, itself, ruled by a council of rotating personnel appointed by the shadowy Grey Council, who rule the entire continent from a hidden location "somewhere in the midlands". The Regional Governors of the City of the Lights rule their territories with utter impunity, as long as they send their tithes to the Grey Council.
Defences
Secrecy is the city of Farmingham's greatest defence.
Industry & Trade
The denizens of Farmingham call each other "paper pushers", being archivists and scribes for the most part, and printing press operators for much of the rest.
Infrastructure
The entire city is supported by the taxes of the regional governors, who only suspect the existence of an entire city needed to administer the massive population of their regions. As such, the entire city is fastidiously built to by-the-book governmental standards that ensure "highest quality living accomodations and recreational opportunities".
Districts
The only real district is called "the Towers"; a complex of tall administrative buildings housed in a set of circled spires. This is where the bulk of the highest ranking administrators work, while living in apartment buildings outside of the walls that surround the Towers.
Assets
The entire city is centrally run by its own administrative council, who does not mess around when the city is needful. They are not afraid to spend money when necessary, and the quality of their roads and the subsequent snow removal thereof is proof positive that they spend their money well. Each of the buildings is supplied with a hot water heating system, and hot and cold running water. Most of them are also equipped with fully functional sewer connections. There is an advanced capability fire suppression system installed throughout the city, making use of the City's seemingly endless supply of clean, running water.
Guilds and Factions
The Scriveners Guild of The City of the Lights is secretly homed here in Farmingham, as is the Bureau of Espionage.
History
Kels Nilsson founded Farmingham several centuries ago, after Count Rolfe Rodrigo Schartenheiney the IV began to raise himself to lichdom.
The Count has made no bones about desiring dominion over the entirety of The City of the Lights, claiming it is his by birthright.
Points of interest
The Towers are interesting, in that they are repositories of extra-spacial archives. Each one is a neverending warehouse organized in some unfathomable manner.
Tourism
There is no tourism to Farmingham.
Architecture
While constructed well and of high quality materials, the architecture in Farmingham is anything but inspired.
Geography
The geography is remarkably flat, much like the rest of the City of the Lights.
Climate
Farmingham is far enough north that it can be somewhat difficult to get to, especially since it is far above the Fulmand Wall.
