Hidden just under the typical facade of normal life, the Changeling dons a mask of their own creation seeking a life more mundane than the one they were given. While exceptionally uncommon, Changelings can be found throughout all major cities but their true natures are rarely known until their passing, taking on a more typical form and so thoroughly investing themselves into their alter egos. Dramatis Personae

Like actors in a play, Changelings upon learning their true nature often take up a persona that masquerades as their true face. These forms range wildly from person to person, from simple butchers and bakers to news reporters and cartographers, but a Changeling is often so compelled to be this persona out of fear that it shifts from a mask to an entire alter-ego, complete with a wildly different personality and set of skills from their true form. A Changeling is an actor throughout their lives, so thoroughly invested into their new face to the point that it becomes a true part of who they are as a person.

Fluid Forms

Though rare, to know of a Changeling companion's true nature implies either a significant level of trust or foolishness on their part. Despised by the Legion Marred for falsified documentation and personas and potential use among rebel groups as spies and assassins, to reveal your true nature to another is a gesture unparalleled. A Changeling companion is an expert negotiator and infiltrator, however beware as Changelings tend to have a flair for the dramatic.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Changelings are typically the result of a Doppleganger and Human union, though exceptionally rare. Once they reach maturity, their skin begins to lose color rapidly, becoming a pale bluish-white to nearly translucent. Dark rings form around their eyes which fade into pure white and their hair fades into wispy white strands. A Changeling's true form after maturity become largely androgynous thin and lithe.
Much of a Changeling's appearance is manufactured. They assume forms in public but even in private are known to tend to their true form's appearance with an almost obsessive nature. Many assume they only take on attractive forms but a Changeling takes on any form they so desire, be they meager or pleasant.

Growth Rate & Stages

Changelings typically live and grow at the same rate as their parent species Humans. They appear Human until around their mid-teens in which they would come to discover their true nature. Even when replicating a younger form, a Changeling still suffers from old age.

Changelings are distrusted among nearly all races save for those equally disenfranchised such as Tieflings or Half-Orcs. Gnomes often take a liking to Changelings due to their capacity for pranks and general mischief.
