Yuan-ti

I don't understand how anyone would ever think the upper rungs of power were held by anything other than snakes.
- ███████ █████, ████████ Rebel
Driven by a common goal to preserve their race and possibly even rise once more to prominence, the Yuan-ti are believed to have been nearly driven to oblivion from their once decadent Human empire. Truly born from the dark rituals and sacrifices, the Sundering has cut off their ability to ascend closer to their serpentine gods and left the majority of their race trapped in the form of a so-called "pureblood", an individual who appears nearly Human, a form they very much despise. Desperate yet proud, the Yuan-ti infiltrate societies in order to protect their sacred secret settlements and bide their time waiting for their rituals of ascension to return.

Thicker than Water

The Yuan-ti vary vastly within even their own race, ranging from nearly entirely Human "purebloods" to multi-headed snake-like creatures. Those with more snake-like features are considered closer to their primordial gods and blessed in blood but texts depicting dark rituals portray methods for one to move further towards their ultimate goal. The offspring of two members of different rungs are believed to have had their blood diluted and manifest fewer traits than the most blessed parent. Despite "purebloods" being considered the lowest rungs of society, they are understood to have vital roles in infiltrating other settlements, acting as spies and gathering worthy allies from among other "lesser races".

Emotions Cloud the Mind

The Yuan-ti have long since shed the restraints of their Human emotions, the result of eons of dark rituals and meddling in demonic blood. They are pragmatic and intellectual, calm even when pressed into dangerous situations. While obnoxiously proud and dangerously cunning, a Yuan-ti companion will always ensure the group works as efficiently as possible and always clear the air of the haze of panic and fear. While it is not unheard of for a Yuan-ti to reject their blood, one must always remain careful of the long-term goals of such companions, they are dangerous and secretive.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Yuan-ti vary greatly depending on their connection to the dark rituals of their ancestors. Abominations have been described as multi-headed serpent-like creatures, massive and intelligent but no known recent reports of such creatures truly exist.   Purebloods range from nearly entirely Human to slightly scaled Human-like creatures. Those with more snake-like features, closer to their ancestor's, have hair ranging from deep curly black to dark green or blond with typically dark tan to deep brown skin with subtle hues of green. Any scales they might have are often bright green or gold in hue, matching their intense eyes. They have similar builds to Humans.

Growth Rate & Stages

Pureblood Yuan-ti have equivalent lives to Humans. They reach adulthood around their late teens and can live up to 85. As Yuan-ti ascend, their lifespans increase dramatically reaching several thousand years.
