Four parties - Dyianr'ri Shien'shoam,Teshar Shal'Tuiz - who betrays his allies in the People's Army to show his true colors as an Elynthi spy, Luvren Lightfingers, Malakshan - lead various parties in a rolling brawl to secure the blade. After a Soulmeliti kills dozens of innocent bystanders with a stray lightning bolt in the Great Market, Yausanti Daumashito gains control of the great blade. Dyianri'ri's Army - over nearly 10,000 from a mix of races, marches on New Solarin.
