Veracous Item in Tarien | World Anvil

Veracous

With a blade of pure crystal that glistens in the sun like a diamond, Veracous radiates a pure white light when wielded by those of pure heart. While nothing is known of its forging, its origins are believed to date back to before the dawn of the written word in the Soulmeliti Forests. Longer and slimmer than most blades, its design is a predecessor or inspiration inspiration for the classic Jian that so many of the Soulmeliti favor. Its hilt is of a simple design and made of pure Mithril.

Over the centuries the sword has appeared at various inflection points along the River of Time, when the Soulmeliti have had the greatest need. It is said that the blade witnessed the fall of Naz'Asketon and stood with Andali Eltwyst when she made her stand. It was wielded by Alec of Alestria during the Window of Fire and later by Dyianr'ri Shien'shoam during the Second Elynthi War where it was lost during the Battle of the Fallen Moon.

Legends describe the sword as having a mind of its own, bending its wielders to its own will. Myths state that Veracous will always seek the truth, smite creatures not of Tarien, and zealously protect the childern of Tyloma.

Blade of Light and Truth

The Jian known as Veracous has several unusual properties. In addition to providing a +2 bonus to hit and damage, its blade emits a pure, white light. The light brightly illuminates everything in a 20 foot radius and dimly for a further 120 feet. While its owner can dim that light somewhat - to a minimum of 5 feet of bright light and a further 5 feet of dim light, it cannot be doused completely unless it is sheathed.

The magical nature of the blade causes its damage to be radiant rather than slashing. It also fuels the sword when fighting great evil, causing an additional 2d8 2d8 points of damage to undead and fiends.

Veracous allows its wielder to cast the following spells, without use of material components. The saving throw DC for spells cast by Veracous is 15 and all spells are cast as 6th level spells. Once each is cast, the cannot be cast again until after a long rest.
