Battle of the Fallen Moon Military Conflict in Tarien | World Anvil

Battle of the Fallen Moon

One of the most devastating battles in the history of Tarien, the Battle of the Fallen Moon both turned the tide of the Second Elynthi War and terrified the world with Selengar Shal'Ashen's display of magical power.

The battle, held in the hills around the Blighted Wood in western Merdenkal Peninsula came on the heels of the People's Army's resounding victory at Bren'niin. The Army, filled with young, vengeful Soulmeliti had swelled its ranks with like-minded Human, Dharjans and even a few Khadra over the past several years as hatred for the Elynthi over the atrocities of the Great War had simmered.

Led by Dyianr'ri Shien'shoam, they had razed the Elynthi town and marched toward Netterkiish, blood lust in their eyes. Numbering over twenty thousand, they were preparing to face a token force of a thousand Elynthi that the town had sent out to meet them. The night before contact was expected, a sole Elynthi figure in black robes could be seen at the top of a nearby hill, gesturing slowly toward the night sky. Before any in the People's Army could react, the moon Mora came streaking out of the night sky and to the disbelief of everyone, crashed into the army camp.

Fewer than a thousand survived. Among the dead were Dyianr'ri and her entire officer core, as the impact entered on a tent where a strategy session was being conducted. While some claim that her chielf lieutenants, Ver'sheli Roen'shai escaped with teh great blade Veracous, none have seen her or the blade since. The army retreated east in disarray. Harried by the Elythni forces as they fled, their was little the Soulmeliti could do and by the following year, New Solarin was under siege again.
