Tribe of the Winter Wolf

No one knows how a tribe of blue-eyed, fair haired humans made their way across the Great North Sea and onto the tundra that runs along its coast, just south of the great glaziers of the Frozen Wastes. With no written records - or system of writing even - the tribe certainly doesn't know. Those scholars that have heard their tongue swear it reminds them of Orkish. Granted, these same scholars, soldiers in the 3rd Expeditionary Force stationed at Fort Starrin, have had no more academic training than any other well travelled legionnaire.

No matter how they arrived, the Tribe of the Winter Wolf has followed the same tracks for as long as their memory extends, migrating north and east in the summer and then back south and west as they days shorten in the fall to spend the long, dark winter in the northern Moosewood. These tracks follow the great herd of caribou that they chase on the blooming tundra and deep within the forest's pines.

Guarded, they have revealed few secrets about their beliefs beyond their obvious reverence for strength and endurance, to the legionnaires. In a few short exchanges they have offered advice about surviving the long winters, though much of it relies on their nomadic nature. It is clear that their tribe is strongly hierarchical, with the best hunting assuming its leadership. The existence of former leaders - older men and women past their prime hunting years - proves that the position is no acquired through fatal combat as Aida Srisharya first postulated. The caribou provide for the tribe, offering both meat for sentience and leathers, antlers and bones for everyday items. The tribe also gathers local berries, nuts, and vegetables, often stashing them in caves and other caches as they travel north in the summer, retrieving them on their return trip.
Strangely, the tribe seems to co-exist with its namesakes, a pack of wolves that follow alongside it on its great migrations. The wolves raid the herd, thinning the elderly and weak alongside the tribe. Their relationship seems to be one of mutual respect more than one of worship. The tribe never leaves offerings for the creatures and the wolves rarely enter the camp of caribou hide tents. They can, however, often be seen patrolling its borders and even attacking the herd at the same time as the tribal hunters - each group's tactics clearly benefiting the other's.
