Shadow's Spit
Far in southwest Tarien, well beyond the seemingly impassable barriers of the Bertagin Savanah to the east and the Divine Range in the north, lies a peninsula shrouded in myth and darkness. Filled with massive, broad leafed trees of incalculable height, the howls of alien monkeys and cries of strange birds echo across the waves to those few ships of the Elanthai Trading Company that sail past its shores once a season. Few have dared to pause, perhaps to take on brackish water at the mouth of the Emerald River and even then only under the direst of circumstances. Wary of the great beasts that must prowl beneath the shadows of the trees, their low, sonorous rumbles of their battle cries as the night falls evidence enough of their presence, sailors might tempt Zardula. For, even in these rare stops under Anderi's protection, the safety of the crew is not guaranteed as more than one sailor has been dragged from the raised roots of mangrove - barrel of water and all - into the coils of a gargantuan serpent. Worse of all is the black tower, rising from the center of the great peninsula: writhing like a snake, contrasting the brightest of days like a scar on alabaster skin and looking down upon the tops of every tree is a pillar of pure blackness.
