Pale Reaches

Sitting at the top of Tarien, the Pale Reaches refer to an the unexplored frontier of ice and snow. Running from the Darsiac Ocean in the west to the Sea of Dreams in the east, the year-round pack ice often makes it difficult to determine where land ends and water begins. This become doubly true around the massive glaciers known collectively as the Frozen Wastes - a veritable desert in the perpetual cold.

The edges of the reaches are the most hospitable, if one elects to apply the term to a land where winter creeps into the Sun Moon and begins to settle back early in the Harvest Moon. During the short summer months the Moosewood in the west and the forests of Naahl and Rai'jen in the west swarm with mosquitos beneath lush canopies that take advantage of the constant sunlight during their short growing seasons. Bear, deer, wolves, and even rodents seem to grow to tremendous sizes amongst these trees - their size a bulwark against the inevitable cold.

More toward the center of the continent the land rises with the glaciers and the occasional mountains that poke through them. It is here, in the few intrepid adventures have reported seeing creatures from myths and nightmares: massive lizards of ice that generate their own heat and dragons with hearts that make the frigid air seem warm. Still, a few brave souls have elected to make their homes in this foreboding world. While the Legionnaires at Fort Starrin know their time in the Pale Reaches is temporary, others, like the Tribe of the Winter Wolf have somehow made it their home.
