Jethrick d'Uthar V

Emperor of Eldoria

Jethrick was young when he ascended to the throne of Eldoria and was far too bookish to survive the pressures of the Empire. His reign was bookended by two events that, while the seeds of which may have been sown by his grandfather, truly marked the end of pure Eldorian dominance in the Inner Seas.

The first brought with it the the dubious distinction of waving away what has become one of the jewels of the Inner Seas over the cost of a one or two Imperial Legions. Unwilling to send additional legions to support duke Marmaduke Parfelle he watch the Yatian peasantry hang their duke in open rebellion and, with the distance between Karradone and the settlement so vast, granted them their freedom.

His second came near the near the end of his life and begin when the Dharja boldly declared the Carboth Desert off limits to the Eldorians. While this accompanied the Dharjan withdrawal from Carboth it ended any hope of peaceful co-existance between the Empire and the people they had once ruled. The bloodshed continued well past Jethrick V's death, his own journals revealing that this failing of diplomacy more so than his loss of Yaty, was his one true regret.

Despite these failures, Jethrick V's reign did have several bright spots, including the completion of the magnificent Sun Temple after roughly a century of construction. The Emperor helped seed the massive Library of Spirit, the first of two great centers of learning that he added to the Empire.

The second came in a massive donation to fund the construction of the School of Pure and Applied Thaumaturgy at the University of Karradone. For three centuries, until its razing during the Mage Wars, this University stood alone on Tarien as a center of arcane lore and was, many argue, the pinnacle of Human achievement.
