House Tuiz

It took two millennia of methodical plotting and the slow gathering of power, but House Tuiz has firmly gained control of the Merdenkal Peninsula. Beginning by firmly establishing their power base in the small hamlet of Koen'tiezst, House Tuiz has always taken a balanced approach to growth. They have built their wealth by developing all aspects of the logging industry in the great forests around their home. From the cutting and planting of trees to the milling of lumber and producing the finest carpenters in Merdenkal, examples of their work can be found in every prestigious Elynthi home.

Using this wealth, they have developed leaders in a number of fields and their family tree is dotted with exceptional swordsmen, diabolical priests, mighty magi, and eloquent statesmen. Shortly after House Madogin initiated trade with Grennig, the Tuiz family began a practice of sending a number of their bright young stars west. This experience, wandering around heathen lands, facing persecution encountering strange customs, has served them well. Tuiz leaders are often nimble of mind and more open to alternative stratagems than many rival houses.

Using these exception skills and their ability to see alternate patterns allowed the family, which had amassed power through more conservatives approaches historically, to steadily increase the dependence of others on their skills and goods. As more and more of the minor families became their vassals, they climbed in voting strength at the Elanthai Council until, when the occupation of the Soulmeliti Forests began, they had the third most votes and were able to acquire the governorship.

Their position as first among the great houses was secured when the Elanthai Council lost control of the Soulmeliti Forests. This traumatic lost cost House Madogin prestige and nearly cost House Ashen their seat completely, leaviing the door open for House Tuiz. Part of this was due to the political machinations of Teshar Shal'Tuiz, governor of the forests, who managed to pin the defeat squarely on the shoulders of Moshin Shal'Madogin and part of it was testament to the reserve forces that the house kept in Nosferius to quell unrest at the time. In fact if anything the House's position has improved since then, with Teshar leading the Council and sending a number of his young nephews, nieces and cousins on diplomatic missions to the Inner Seas.
