Hans von Ghana Character in Tarien | World Anvil

Hans von Ghana

Second Generation Sea Captain and Explorer

Frustrated with the lack of courage among other sea captains and worried his of his father's legacy of discoverydiscovery would languish and fall outside of history, Hans took his ship further south along the Azermathian coast until it swung back eastward again. Out of food and short on fresh water, his ship put in on a series of muddy islands muddy islands that now bear his name. Massive lizards - both aquatic and terrestial, forced him to cut his resupply short and turn north again. Confident, however, that he had found the southern point of the subcontinent, he returned to Yaty, his hand drawn maps in hand, declaring that he had found "the edge of the world."

Eight years later, fully funded by investors in Yaty, he took three ships south again on to learn that the archipeligo was not indeed the furthest point south on Tarien. After sailing east through what is now known as Glades Bay and around a peninsula (that he conveniently left off of his maps) into the Sintarien Sea. He followed the coastline north, mapping and exploring as he went, travelling up a mighty river of salt water. Dense jungles lined both shores of the channel and he eventually made landfall on the eastern shore, spending several years exploring the jungle that now bears his name.

While he found no signs of recent habitation, Ghana did find several ruins that bespoke of an ancient civilization. In several spots his journal notes that he found massive pyramids that hte jungle had obviously reclaimed. One, he claimed, even held windows of stained glass. Beyond the pyramids, however, he found little esle in the jungle that was rewarding. Like the islands of the archipelago, the jungles were filled with lizards on both land and water that reached massive size, some larger than elephants. Had he known of the terrors that stalk the Darien Plain and Jungles of Kash-pah he would have recognized many as kin to the dinosaurs that live there.

He returned to civilization after ten long years only to arrive in Rathgar Bay to find the ashes of a colony. After a short excursion to investigate, he found stone arrowheads of Goblin make and returned to Yaty to retire and write about his journeys.
