Castle Kalidor

Guarding the "neck" of the Grennig Peninsula, Castle Kalidor began as wooden palisade guarding the docks of the fledgling port. In a ew short years the palisade turned into a small wooden keep. When Grennig was given to Eldoria, Galencia retained the rights to the fortress as a means of protecting their economic interests in the area. Their engineers, some of the best in Tarien, built up the keep, hauling stone south from Caladon until the massie structure covered the entire neck of the peninsula.

This construction means that the road leading into the city runs right through the main keep. Seen from above it looks like two triangles, facing inward to each other, with a wide boulevard nearly a hundred feet across at the center. Anyone entering the city must pass through this choke point. On either side, a beautiful garden, filled with hedges and flowering trees gives the militia ample locations to place discrete defenders of the city and, perhaps more importantly for Grennig, the ability of the Grennig Trade Commision to covertly monitor goods moving into and out of the city.

Beyond that the castle proper, including barracks for troupes, anti-siege weapons, forges, and other military accruements fan out like wings from the gardens. Despite the utility of this section, Galencian architects worked hard to maintain a elegant style, with sweeping curves and few sharp corners. This design proves both appealing to the eye and efficient at moving troops. Further out, along the edges where the Castle abuts against the bay, are the residences and offices of the Princess and her staff (along the east harbor) and the various governmental agencies (along the west harbor). The princess restricts access to her side to only the most essential staff and guests, taking the long walk across the castle to meet with the public as a fair exchange for a modicum of privacy.
