Grennig Trade Commision

Instituted by Kalidor the Brave who sought to tax the lucrative trade coming through Grennig's port, they have fulfilled their charge - and the Principality's coffers well without disrupting the business of merchants. The Commission is responsible for both setting tariffs and collecting them. For the first, they have a team of clerks working in Castle Kalidor to establish the rate for all sorts of goods. Using reports from all over Tarien, they balance the value of the tax collected, the desire to continue to grow trade in the particular commodity, and the political agenda of the Principality to produce volumes of tariff books detailing the tax on thousands of different goods. Collecting the tariffs requires a large workforce of strong armed and sharp eye men and women that that review every ship and wagon passing through the Principality, carefully calculating levies and producing certificates of payment for the merchants. They have impeccable honor and are incented well to report attempts at smuggling and bribery to the Shore Patrol for swift punishment, a tactic that has all but squashed the Brotherhood of Thieves in Grennig.
