Alku Clan

The Alku clan has the dual distinctions of both holding onto the title of Dono of the Zennonaize Confederacy for the shortest period of time - beginning with Ryukyu Fleet-Foot in 12 AC and ending with the untimely death of Mandara Alku in 154 AC - they also were the most industrious, driving the horselords to expand both internally and externally. Coming from a small estate in the western part of the Malpighien Steppes, few expected the Alku clan to ever achieve the heights that they did. It was only the strong will and ferocious fighting of Ryuku - a bastard son himself - that allowed the clan to conquer the western steppes and drive their rivals, the Darin Clan back to West Harbor and claim the throne.

In their short reign, they pushed the boundaries of the Confederacy both toward the setting sun with West Harbor and the rising one with Fort Tarick. And despite the failures of the first envoys east from the fort, its establishment at Trai'dietch Pass would pay dividends in the centuries to come.

Within the boundaries of the Confederacy, the Alku clan pushed society forward by allowing the first woman, Adretta Alku to rule as Dono, something still uncommon in Human states today. They also began the construction - and reconstruction - of the new capital of Zennon. The capital, now a massive city and center of Zennonaize culture, was the first time that anyone established walls that housed more than one clan and was the first step toward the more unified notion where loyalty to the Zennon State has become almost as important as loyalty to one's clan.
