Ashe C2 Episode 44 - Aftermath of the Infernal Device

Previously On Liters of Tomorrow...
After saving the strange warforged monk known as Sava Cogson, the team investigated the warehouse where he was held. Gathering evidence pertaining to a strange device being forged in that very warehouse. Sava concluded that the device was an incendiary bomb to be used in an assassination attempt on one of the princesses in line for the throne.
You all gathered in the Common room of the Bulongo Inn at the center of town to discuss what to do next. A scouting party formed to inspect the bridge immediately. The other half of the team went to the local potion shoppe to acquire some provisions. Once the Scouting party arrived at the bridge they notices several operatives of the criminal organization known as the Crown Smashers already in position and awaiting the carriage.
Nuth and Virgil made their way under the bridge to investigate the bomb. Attempting to create a rope harness to access the bomb Virgil was dropped into the swiftly moving river underneath and disappeared. Nuth attempted to disarm the bomb but lacked the proper tools to disassemble the pressure plate at the top.
On the bridge above the rest of the team engaged in combat with the would be assassins. The battle was long and hard fought, two strange martial arts trained warforged entered the fray attacking any of you who dared to disrupt the plot. Near the end Nuth raced to meet up with Finn who possessed the tools for the job, Virgil was gone into the river and Rango and Wes suffered serious injury. The Princesses carriage quickly approached and things looked dire. With the help of the two druids, Truffle and Demaia, the Wes and Rango were revived and all four of them leapt into action to stop the carriage from entering the bridge.
With most of the assassins killed or escaped the final warforged monk decided to disengage with combat and complete his mission. He dove down to the center of the bridge and triggered the device.

Plot points/Scenes

Still in the heat of battle you watch as the strange warforged man slams his fist down into the bridge.  Then erupts in a white hot blaze of fire.  Streaks of white emerge from the center of the bridge and look for their target.  Everyone on the city side of the bridge takes 4d4 damage as the magic missiles zip around. 
Those on the outside of the bridge can see that a dozen of the magic missiles streak into the sky and then arc downward towards the carriage.  Their original target, the Princess Lydia.  What would you like to do?
The aftermath
The bridge has sustained an enormous amount of fire damage and you watch as the stone work in the middle burns with magical and alchemical fire.  City guards appear from all sides and many of them call for a bucket brigade to put out the flames.  Within minutes Tavers Sangeil of the magick shoppe appears with a large ceramic jug.  He opens it on it's side and a firehose jet of water emits from the end combatting the flames.
If the princess is still alive she speaks with the guards and tells them of the brave deed that the team has done that day.  Two of the Crown Smashers that had escaped are caught, their leader though Gibdo escapes yet again.  They are interrogated and admit their part of the plan.  No one can accuse Viktor Stenkov directly though, his payments all seem to have come from go betweens and dead drops.  

The Beetle Stirs
Truffle you watch as the beetle normally dormant on your shell rises up and walks off.  It moves directly west towards the river and then disappears.  Wes can see the portal that has opened up and swallowed the strange beetle.  
A message from Unacather
Mausim while this is happening you get another message from your sister.  She begins speaking in your mind and she sounds a little out of breath this time.  "Brother we are on the run from Vernabogge's secret police, his thugs.  Father still in prison, things are dire.  Where are you?"
It is time for everyone to pick their mission.  Return the Beetle to the Great Tree and the Dryad before Electra can obtain it or head to the city of Copenhaus to try to liberate it from the monster known as Vernabogge.

Themes

Travel options for my team:
The options are to use the carriage and the secured arcane focus
Hire a ship to sail frow Warshaw to Copenhaus
Buy some horses and travel swiftly over roads without having to use the carriage.
Ship available for passengers is the Pineapple Blade, captained by the genial water genasi woman knows as Queverly.  Her crew are mostly former pirates who have gone straight to avoid tough sentences from Penthos.  Many of them are Halflings, Aarakocra, and humans.  
[DM Note: if they choose this option, Jovus Flamedancer will attack them and try to sink the boat using Elementals.  If they go over land then Strahan will use his forces to attack them by the river.  ]

The Pineapple Blade
Captain - Queverly - Water Genasi woman with a shady past.  She is currently trying to get out of Warshaw before the East Tellenheim Company finds out she stole a good portion of their cargo from the dock fire.  Mostly Coffee, Barrels of Wine, and silk.  
She will charge 25 gold per passenger for the trip to Copenhaus.
