Bajapur (Bazh-ah-purr)

Bajapur is the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the entire Sundered Lands. It is a hub of commerce and trade, ruled by an individual known as the Great Tycoon. Each Tycoon is chosen from amongst the leaders of the most powerful merchant houses, known as Moguls.
Wealth in general, and gold in particular, is a huge focus of the people of Bajapur, as shown in their annual Golden Moon Festival. Their currency, the Gil Plate and the Gil Star, are the defacto trade currency of the Sundered Lands. Bajapur has been known to waive the debts of nations which acted on its behalf to destroy offenders against the city's laws, such as those attempting to counterfeit its coinage.
An immense ancient kraken, known as the Krakenmaw, lairs in the seas beyond Bajapur's harbour, and demands annual tribute in return for not destroying the merchant fleets which sail past it, and sweeping the docks of Bajapur clean. To date, the city has regarded the tribute as a lesser cost and difficulty than attempting to battle the kraken.
