Io
Io is the innermost and third-largest of the four Galilean moons of the planet Jupiter. Slightly larger than Luna, Io is the fourth-largest moon in the Solar System, has the highest density of any moon, the strongest surface gravity of any moon. The moon is incredibly active and its own atmosphere and magnetosphere.
Famed as the planet of Scholars and philosophers, Io is the home world of the Ioian - {Gith} people within the Celestial Connection. Their society works via an informed technocracy, rules being made with the consent of the people, but pitched by the philosophers and scientific elite. Despite it's potential for abuse, Io has a reputation for being a very egalitarian and peaceful. There is a common joke referencing the high sulfur content and volcanic activity of the world that "Io would be the envy of the system, If not for the smell."
Io is a partially Terraformed world, which is to say that some parts of the planet are safe to walk on fully exposed, and hold plant and animal life, but the majority of the world does not have sufficient ability to do so. This state for semi Terraformation requires a lot of power to maintain, and birth rates on Io are carefully maintained, thus Io's population is much lower than it's similarly sized neighbors.

Geography
Io is mostly sulfur and in hospitable deserts of hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials. Surface water is limited, almost entirely imported from Saturn and limited in it's ability to stay in atmosphere. The poles are the greenest, rich grasslands running through lowlands and following lakes and rivers. Here most ioians live in small cities and towns. Often close to their tightly cultivated nature. Animal life is limited, as gravity is weak on the planet, yet some can be found having adapted to low gravity. The Xenophage has only lightly touched Io, and is found usually inactive in the radioactive deserts or long lost cashed ships that have not contacted new biomass. As such Io is known for it's safety so long as you listen to warnings of sulfur storms.

History
io was always seen as a hopeful for colonization. As a rocky body with a magnetosphere, some of the hardest concerns about Terraforming. However, low water presence and Juipiter's over powering magnetosphere pushed Io to more of a dream local. Still it was popular with artists, philosophers, scientists, and supported by chemical farms. It eventually found success with water translates and seeding plans, along with polar colonization. Winning it's fame as a place for new academies of science away from the inner system.
Due to distance from Earth and lack of interest from the authorities under the United Earth Sphere the modern technocracy formed on Io to help govern and build the colonies. This allowed Io to have its separate government already set up to handle the emergency when they were cut off from earth. They were spared the worst of The First Wave as their population was so much smaller than the other moons. During the worst of it Io took on the bulk of refugees from the dead moon of Callisto forming a sub society among the Ioians who have kept their Callisto culture. Yet their multicultural moon has not known division despite the differences.
Their charity and reputation allowed Io to have an undue influence on the formation of the Jupiter Compact which evolved into the CC. To this day they are trusted as the best diplomats and advisors within the CC. Though they lack the military power of Titan the economic power of Europa or the industrial power of Ganymede, they unquestionable have profound cultural power within the CC and are it's chief proponents of multi-cultralism and pacifism.
